Well here I am at 5 am sitting on my laptop in the kitchen.. My reason? Well my little ball of male fluff called Zapp has been chewing the bars of his cage all night! He is in my sons room which has been vacated by him due to the noise and so good old Mum has been sent to try to sleep in there. I believe it is because he currently has Coco my poorly girl in a cage in the same room, so I have covered the end of her cage, given them both some fresh veg, hay and Zapp a few wooden chewing things but NO! he is still at it hence an early breakfast for me. I do now feel that I can see a pro for neutering and that perhaps he could be happier in with my girlies, so he had better behave himself lol! I do however know the negative things linked to neutering having seen a very swollen abcess/infection on a boar shortly after the op. Good job I love him!:a19:

is he on his own? as bar chewing can be a sign of boredom or stress, so i'd definately give him the snip ;) mine live in the living room now because they were such noisey beggars at night. it's nice to sit and watch telly with them too. and all the cage accessories match my colour scheme! haha! x

I know what I can't have more than the one (big) group that has taken over our living room - I'm a light sleeper!

It is definitely worth thinking about neutering; living with girls is a boar's dream come true. By the sound of it, one of the girls was probably in season last night!

An experienced vet can make a difference, although you can never completely exclude all complications, which can appear weeks or even months after an op if you are unlucky. The vast majority of boars make it, though, but it can be a close run thing at times and you'd do well to have a piggy savvy vet to fall back on, as I have found out the hard way with my Hywel!

Hiya thanks for your replies. Yes Zapp is a lone boar as we tried to bond him with several other boars but he wasn't having any of it. There is a sow in the cage next to him at the moment as she has been not well although she is due to go back to the herd this week fingers crossed. I think that her being in season could have been the problem maybe? Bless him I so would love him to have a friend but it isn't though not trying. Am gonna contact our local rescue and find a decent savy vet to perhaps neuter him.
