The martin boys, sweep 6 grandpig, coco 4 grandpig in the making, sorbet and cinnamon 6/9 months cheeky scamps, snowy 4 months and scruffy 4 months. Lived together 4 weeks, indoors now in a c & c construction ( coco's bit 3x2, all the others 3x3 downstairs and 2x4 upstairs)Yesterday all 6 boys visited the vet, sweep and sorbet both had gunky left eyes and sorbet was sneezing, when I got through to the vets, it was suggested I bring all the boys in for a check up, thankfully I'd read something on another post about setting up a vets fund in case of emergency and thankfully I had done, so some of the panic was over, sweep and sorbet were diagnosed with conjunctivitis and was given eye drops, they were all given a 5 day course of baytril as a precautionary measure, is this normal practise? is there anything else I can do to make sweep and sorbet a little more comfortable? as there both looking very miserable, sorbets not even weeking at veg time ...there weight is as follows, is this about average for there age?
Sweep 1.3 kg
Coco 1.24 kg
Sorbet 0.75 kg
Cinnamon 0.73 kg
Snowy 0.47kg
Scruffy 0.39 kg
There diet consists of daily: excel pellets, green oat hay, meadow hay, large bowl of dandelion/plantain/mixed herds on rotation, loads of fresh veg - what ever we have in, we're veggies here so there's always a good supply

Part 2

This morning when I went to give the boys there medicine I noticed cinnamon running round on three legs with his front left paw being held close to his body, had a look and a feel but couldn't see anything wrong, but he definitely wasn't his normal self, off to the vets again, the vet said it wasn't a break but might have been a sprain see how he is in a week and if no better bring him in and they will do an X-ray, I have cornered off a little bit inside the cage so his movements are restricted? its a 1x2 grid space, seems to small, should it be bigger? he can see the others but he's just lying there in his hay box, he's looking very miserable. Is there anything else I can do to make him
More comfortable? I have weighed out his food and water so I can gauge what's going in, I have put vit c drops in the water and he has his favourite veg, what else can I do for him? He had been given pain meds
Cheers for reading

Update the conjunctivitis and the sniffles have cleared up and both boys (sweep and sorbet) are looking a lot less miserable, snowy, coco, cinnamon and scruffy have shown no signs of any sniffles so I think we're all good on that one.

Cinnamon is looking a little more comfortable, he's not holding his paw quite as high into his chest, he ate 10g food and a small bowl of veg the first 24 hrs and 11g and a small bowl of veg the next 24 hrs, water intake is a bit tricker as I don't know how much has leaked out, he's been spotted on several occasions munching green oat hay from the rack so hopefully it's just a sprain and all will be well...

Next question cinnamon is in a 2x1 in the main cage, am I likely to have problems when I put him back with the others or should I put a pal in with him now?

Cheers

Sorry to hear your having illnesses problems. It is common with eye problems to have both drops and oral AB's as far as I am aware.

Is Cinnamon still having pain relief to help his leg? Hope the xray shows nothing amiss and it is a sprain as expected. As regards to re-introducing I don't have boys so unsure on any boar hiccups but I would imagine it will be fine.

Hope all your poorly piggies recover soon.

The boys were given baytrill as well as eye drops, last course of both last night and all looks good, I have noticed that sorbet now suddenly hates being picked up as previously he didn't seem to mind, not sure if its to do with the eye drops and baytrill as he really hated those, being separated from cinnamon or being in the new cage, I didn't think about how hard the piggies would be to catch if they didn't want to be caught in a 5x3 and its worse if there upstairs, short arms lol! Even though I have put in doors it's still a little tricky. I have tried herding him into a cuddle cup but once I've picked him up he literally fights to get down...

Sorbet still thankfully seems to be on the mend, he has his last dose of pain meds tonight then at the vet tomorrow morning, he's still not using the front paw but it is near the floor now rather than held tight against his chest, he ate a whopping 23g of food in the last 24 hrs, I even combed through the bedding to make sure the bowl hadn't been upturned he's also wee'd as there were damp patches separate from the water bottle patches, hay and veg are being choffed as usual so not as worried now, wee hee

Pain meds again for cinnamon as he is putting a little weight on his leg but still isn't a 100% yet, he's back with the others and hopefully by the end of the week all will be normal with his leg, sweep was also at the vet alongside cinnamon for a reoccurring back leg problem, will post about his separately as I could really do with some advise
