Sam my boar (sorry ive not been on in a while) is still plodding along. Hes now 5 :) he had another abscess removed and the vet said it will probably come back. The wound is healing but theres still puss coming out. I'm trying every thing and I'm back at the vets on friday as in worried but does any one have any advice? If it gets to much for him i wouldnt put him threw it but hes fight on so i will. my other piggie has spurs as well, I'm doing well these days lol

Sorry about Sam. I really don't know much about abcesses etc. but I would say that if Sam is still fighting and still a happy pig in himself despite the pain then I would keep fighting alongside him. I think you're doing the right thing by having him looked at by the vet and I'll keep my fingers crossed for a sppedy recovery :)

I haven't tried Zithromax but i will ask about it next week when I'm back in, the vets not keep on giving out things he doesn't know...tuff...pow-pow
His lump is on his neck and its tricky to deal with because of where it is. It cant just be cut out it needs to be drained and left to heal. Hes currently running around and squeaking so no signs of giving up but I'm realistic about how long he has.

Hes to go in next week to check his antibiotics are working, hes got stuuf to clean the would and pain killers. I shall try the poultice again as that worked, much to his dislike!

My (now late) pig also had a lot of other ailments going on with him and then he developed a deep ear infection which in turn developed into a large abscess on the side of his face. I had not used Zithromax for abscesses before but after the vet had cleaned him up, it took literally five days for it to clear up. He was on it for two weeks to make sure the infection had cleared. It is also possible for a pig to have 'precautionary' Zithromax at a later date if the infection seems to have gone, but it can't be certain. It is certainly the kindest antibiotic for tummies that I have used too.

It is definitely worth a try. I would say to ring my vet, but unfortunately he is away on holiday until the end of next month. :(

I am back at the vet on thursday so i shall push to get it. thanks :)

Just a small update. Sams abscess is getting a bit smaller. I've been cleaning it out and giving him his meds and it seems to be working. Hopefully he wont need any more treatment. I was warned though it will probably come back but i'll cross that bridge when it happens. I'm just glad hes still here, i never though he'd make it to 5 and the vets near enough told me to give up years ago...
My last vet was great though, he said he was a wee character and like a little dog, i love how every one loves him. I'm a proud mummy! :)
