Did anyone else see this tonight? Why oh why do they have to show a giant rabbit brought in by a rabbit breeder - who has 60 rabbits and NOT mention anything about rescue or what these animals need. I have e-mailed the show with my comments. I've put:
Regarding the rabbit on your show tonight. Please, please, bear in mind that everytime animals are featured on popular shows, that there are people out there with the attitude of 'I want' and will buy without any research. The lady you featured is a breeder - many of her rabbits will end up in rescue, guaranteed. I take in, on a very small scale, unwanted guinea-pigs and it is unbelievable how quickly the novelty of pet ownership wears off - from adults as well as children! I belong to an internet forum in which we discuss ways that we can try to cut down the amount of animals needing homes - and one way of increasing the number of animals needing homes results from such features as yours. Please stress how much SPACE these animals need - average sized rabbits need very large hutches and runs, the giant rabbit you showed needs specialist care. How much MONEY they cost. How much the VETS FEES are - they need immunisation and possible neutering.
I really enjoy The One Show but the number of animals in rescues is phenomenal - we need all the help we can get to try and get the public to understand exactly what they are taking on.
Thank you.
It's not written brilliantly but I just wanted to bring it to their attention. If anyone else saw it (you may be able to watch it via the website) please let them know if you feel the same way as me.
