I decided to 'try' the Complete Food Cubes and took some pictures.

Fred is standing up behind '4' Food Cubes.

Wilma and Fred get tasting their brand new cube, the cube pictured is suppose to be all 'one' guinea pig needs for 48 hours along with water I'm not convinced;

Now it's Patrick and Pebbles turn,

Patrick checking out his cube;

We also got some 'Sensitive' Nuggets;

This is what they look like;

The nuggets seemed to be hit, the calcium: phosphorous ratio is 0.5: 0.7

I think these hay cube's maybe good as a treat an expensive treat at that but I'd much rather give my piggies a huge bag of hay and some vegetables! x

Look like some piggies are having a lot of fun with the cubes :))
Going to get some of these, Burgess are doing £1 off vouchers (love a little discount)
My lot liked the FibaFirst so hope they'll enjoy these too - as a treat only ;)

I am concerned about the poor little piggies that get these 'cubes' as a complete food :....

Me too :( i think it's really irresponsible that they are promoting them to be honest! Piggies get a rough deal as it is let alone with things like this coming out!

On a more positive note - love the pics and so glad to see little Patrick looking so well!

He really is a little miracle pig! x

Thanks for the pics :) I never thought the Sensitive nuggets would look like that - they remind me of the wood pellet litter you see in the degu cages at pets at home :p

I might get some of the nuggets to try - although mine never really liked the FibaFirst ones from Science Selective - however they do like burgess pellets.

I did see the 'food cubes' in my pets at home but as i recall they were £7.99 per pack :{ an expensive treat indeed.... Are they similar in appearance to hay cakes? Mine never liked those too, they just used them as portable toilets :)>>> not great when it come to cleaning them up....

It was the same when they bought out the FibaFirst (a complete food too) but it states on the box to give hay and veg as well daily.
When I opened the box and saw the sticks, reckoned they were no better really than a boredom breaker so that's all they had them as.
Hopefully people who buy these will be experienced owners and give them as a treat ?/

It says on the excel box all they need is a hay cube and fresh water. @)

The cubes are compressed hay and the nuggets are compressed into them so it's just like compressing hay and nuggets together but it's limiting there daily intake which I don't think is correct.

SP - they are a VERY expensive treat you would be better off buying a huge bag of hay.

I have emailed my concerns to burgess and I won't be buying them again, I'd much rather buy some tasty veggies and hay! x

Is that good? having more crude fibre I mean? the look tasty actually and more grassy than the normal pellets. But they are os much dearer :(

How does the price of the sensitive nuggets compare to the normal burgess nuggets?

I think they have probiotics in them to, I just got them for P because less protein is better for their kidneys and considering where his op was, working less should be helpful and I think grain less is better why I don't know :(|).

Erm I can get a huge bag of Excel 10kg for £13 - I can only get 2kg of Sensitive for £4.57.

Big price difference but I only feed a tablespoon of pellet's per pig so why last ages, in fact I might just leave the other 4 on normal excel. :o

Are these the ones, four cubes in a pack ? - just checked the Burgess website and they're not available :(
Know what you mean about hay cakes and mess, found the blinkin bits for weeks after on the piggies fleece/bedding - glad they didn't like them although they had fun ripping them to pieces !
Found them on here and the 10k Wagg Optimum is £5 cheaper than Amazon !

Might order both and get free delivery...

Ah that's not too bad, I'm buying 2kg bags of excel at the moment and they're about £4.50

Yeah that's the ones - would be good to try them as a treat - but i'd use all 4 in one go! The Sensitive nuggets look good though - might pick up a bag next time I'm out and about.

I bet my lot would like wagg optimum, but they only sell the rabbit version in my local sainsburys - for some reason they've never stocked the guinea pig variety :{

Those Sensitive nuggets look interesting, will have a look at those for sure. Love the photo of Fred :)) :)) really made me laugh.

What worrys me most with these hay cubes is scurvy. How on earth can they get the vit C into them?

I'm just wondering if these would be good for a night away; we have a big family do coming up & I am debating whether to put the piggies in boarding for one night or not. I don't like leaving them but we have left our previous ones overnight before on the odd occasion (once a year lol) & just left loads of hay, pellets etc but of course by the next day there was nothing left! I am sure they ate everything the minute we went out the door lol :))

These cubes could be ideal for that sort of situation, or to leave them in the cage if you are having a long day out somewhere.

I've left my pigs over night several times before. I just make sure they have plenty of water (I'd always give them too much - 2 bottles for 12 hours or whatever), a bowl of pellets, some veg that will last them a little while (mine don't eat carrots very quickly, corn on the cob is a good one), and LOADS of hay. They didn't even notice I was gone {:|
