I decided to transfer some money into a savings account each month for piggies to cover any future vet bills that may come up ;) Kind of like having insurance if you like. That way if any of my darlings get ill then I wont have to worry about how to afford their treatment :) I looked up pet insurance but was quoted over £800 for the year so thought I would just save money myself ;)

ive just done a quick google, and it brought up a few places doing , all around £5-15 a month but with an excess to pay of £40-85 so really it isnt worth it anyway. I think i will stick to the piggy bank! Something also considering, and I dont know if any of your vets do it, but one of my vets do a cheap initial consultation if the animal is a "childs pet" x hamsters, mice etc are often free. I was told they would check Stevie for free if i took comanche when i wanted to just have them checked over.

I had a vet appointment with Elvis yesterday but it cost £15.27, I asked if they had a lower first consultation fee but they dont. Its so annoying as he picked Elvis up, looked at him and said 'he's fine' and I had to pay for that! rolleyes

its £21 for a piggie check at my vets, but they would check more than one at the same time. I understand that they go through lots of training etc, but i think the prices are too expensive, and surely it puts people off! When we were there last week, in the time we were in the waiting room and old woman paid £98 for her cat, a couple paid £137 for their dog, and a small hamster/mouse (we couldnt see), they said they wouldnt charge for. And a puppy was £76! That was in about 10 minutes. Neo and Ashs bills are just over £250 and that includes treatment for ringworm, a chest and eye infection!
When I was at school, the same vets did a tea-time drop in and that was a certain day of the week, which was donations to rescue centres if you were under 16. Unless the animal needed something really expensive. One of my hamsters at the time needed to be put to sleep and they told me to gas it! i cried all the way home! Its a great vets despite this lol. The owner has piggies, so i feel i can trust his judgement on things also.

I bet that check up lasted all of 5 minutes! x

The check up lasted about 60 seconds lol!
I chose that vet because it specialises in small animals though so they will know what they're talking about if I need them in the future ;) They also specialise in horses so was a bit weird sitting in the waiting room and seeing some horses walk on in lol

That's a great idea - unfortunately, I know what I'm like and would just end up dipping into it for non-piggy things or non-essential piggy things.
