So I decided that I wanted guinea pigs and my husband (a rooting tooting shooting meat eating kinda man who thinks all small animals are rodents and vermin) was seriously not having any of it. Being the Yorkshire lass that I am I simply told him it was happening and to get a grip of himself. He was all "They will be your pets you can sort them out I'm not getting involved with the little bloody rats." And he ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT even consider letting them live inside so we have a massive outdoor hutch.

Fast forward to Friday and I went to pick the piggies up. Sisters of 8 weeks. I asked if he wanted to hold them and he was all "No, bloody rats." I kept them inside and found him leaning in the box chatting to them when he thought I wasn't there. Then Saturday I was holding them and he wanted a hold. Then Sunday he asked what their names were and I said I hadn't decided. Suddenly he says "Well I'd like to call one Key (Japanese for spirit) and I don't know about the other...." WTF I thought that they were my guinea pigs and you wanted nothing to do with them?

And then ANOTHER breakthrough! On Sunday he says "Are the piggies ok outside?" I said "Well it's freezing but I've got them a Snugglesafe and tons of hay/straw and insulated all I can so I think so." AND HE SAYS! "You know if you get an indoor hutch they can come inside...." HAHAHA! Piggie charm wins again I can't believe how much he likes our "dirty little rats" as he first called them. I come downstairs in a morning to find him stroking and cuddling them. Hahaha! Somehow I think we will be getting more than 2 eventually! :-)

The power of Piggies.... :luv:

Haha I think the issue is, especially with the rooting tooting shooting fellas is that they are scared of "not looking manly" by you know showing they have emotions and compassion for things.
(Not to insult any of you lovely boys here though!)
My dad is the same he will give it all "well I don't even know what their names are, they're just Guinea pigs, I don't need to care" then goes and baby talks them.

Piggies are definitely way to charming for their own good!

Glad they have won him over, my other calls them stupid guinea pigs! In an endearing way, he doesn't have much to do with them apart from picking up the veg on the way home from work, quite often I dump them on his lap when I am cleaning them out , I whisper in their ear to wee on him lol

He as obviously been looking deeply into their eyes not around their eyes but deep in their eyes. And its worked. Congratulations

Piggies are like Pringles... Once you pop, you just can't stop ;)

The addiction gets to everyone eventually.. My OH wasn't a piggy person but now dotes on them (even if I do have a divorce vs piggy limit of four (permanent) pigs at any one time)! She still moans that most of them like me better than her and she has only had two who favour her most. You can't win lol.

:D What a lovely story! Proof if any were needed that Guinea pigs can soften the hardest heart!:wub:

Hahaha! That is exactly what happened with my husband although he called them 'skittish little rats'. They started off in the garden but now live in a 5ft hutch with 4ft run attached in the lounge. But they actually spend their days (usually from 8am-10pm ish) freeranging in the lounge & kitchen and he has trained them to lick his feet when they want their nuggets in the evening!

My dad was never a fan of them , but would sneakily chat to them when he came to visit me! I've currently moved back in with my parents temporarily and when i was worried about one of my sows and cost for all the investigations and resulting in a spey, he told me to get the soonest appointments i could and paid for it all!

He now likes to scratch said piggy under the chin haha

My hubby was never a guinea pig fan either and he still isn't that fussed. HOWEVER, when we moved from rented accommodation in to our own house, he let them move indoors and he often has a cuddle when they're out of the cage. He would also never see them come to any harm.

Aww that's lovely. It seems quite common amoungst us ladies who love our piggies but OH's aren't so keen, that when they think you're not looking they are stroking them and talking to them lol.

Haha that's brilliant! My OH has come round to letting me have them and house them indoors...but he still won't touch them!

LOL! That's awesome! My husband is still not fond of the pigs... he's only liked one of our pets, and that was probably 20 years ago! That said, it goes without saying that they live indoors (far too cold in Ontario to keep them outside in the winter) and he did feed them for me when I was in the hospital after surgery a few years back!

My OH was the same, he wouldn't even have a house plant. He adores the guineas, feeds them when he gets up first. He gets them out for cuddles even though they are very nervous when handled "because otherwise they only think of me as the person who manhandles them when they get their nails cut". They were originally going to live outside but the temperature dropped to minus just before we picked them up so as "they are only babies" they could come indoors until the spring, a year on they are still in doors!

My husband didn't want me to get guinea pigs either, we already had 2 dogs and some fish. He said ok eventually, but they go outside, but like you mrs clark, being from Yorkshire paid off! They were straight INSIDE! AND that was after he drove me all the way to Surrey to get them! (6 hour round trip), well I drove there he drove back. Sadly tho he's never really warmed to them, 2 & a half years later he still calls them 'it' & 'them'! Where I call them 'the girls'! He will call at asda tho for veg for them when I ask him to.

My dad was exactly the same! When we were a bit younger and had our trio of girls, the eldest Millie lived till nearly 7 so we moved her inside and dad would chat to her every time he walked past, and feed her, and even let us put her on his lap ! He loved her to bits although he will never admit it! :))

Watch out, he may change his tune yet. My bf and archie view each other as rivals for my affection, so are not very keen on each other. My bf likes to threaten to take archie to a Peruvian restaurant
Daddy has always loved archie though, he adores little cute animals, even though archie loves to try and rip his skin.

Yep, my boyf wasn't keenScared of any rodents vis bad experience with a rabbit.Fell in love with a boar in pets at home adoption centre so he came home with us. Making a six foot by six foot defector them with materials he bought cos wants to give them loads of space.Talks to them all the time.No one can resist their charms
