I sometimes browse through Gumtree (I live in Australia), and they have a pet section where you can buy and sell pets - terrible I know. It's full of mostly breeders (which I don't agree with) and some people trying to rehome their guinea pigs.

The problem I have with these sort of sites is they don't seem to regulate what is being bought and sold. They probably have welfare standards for dogs and cats that have to be met, but somehow I doubt they do the same for guinea pigs and other small animals 😟.

I just saw an ad for baby dalmation guinea pigs and the breeder specifically said their father is a dalmation (and he's in the picture). It's infuriating to see this sort of carelessness and total disregard for the welfare of guinea pigs 😡, because a lot of the time, breeding this breed produces lethals 😞.

Anyway, I just thought this was sad and wanted to share. Do similar things like this happen on other sites you know of?

We also have Gum tree here in the U.K. :( It’s so sad that people can off load their animals on there. I try to stay away and not look as it just upsets me
I know. I think a simple solution would be Gumtree not allowing breeding and selling of pets. There's plenty of rescues with piggies (and other animals for that matter) looking for homes, and the breeding and selling to people who have no idea what they're doing just creates an influx of surrenders and unwanted/neglected animals :(.

Yes, as Claire said, it’s also an issue here in the UK. Bad breeders, puppy farming etc.
