got a bag of this to try (3.99 a bag) and was pretty dissapointed. Thought it was quite tough and cut shortish. Donated it to rescue as only small amount used and she will use it in hay racks for older pigs. I dont use hay racks as my piggies will eat out of the litter tray and ignore racks. Dont want to risk hay pokes as mine love to hide in it. Love the tesco one cos really soft and green but not cut very long. Get some from a small pet shop that she bags herself and she only charges 90 pence for a bag that does my girls 2 and a half days. This is lovely long strands and not too hard. Will stick to that and tesco i think. Second time i have tried something and been dissapointed.

I've always bought this hay for my boys bedding hay and found it to be really good 90% of the time, but I have found the last two bags to be quite bad (I'm putting it down to time of year).

What kind of weight is the Tesco bag? I saw it in there but it looked rather small and was quite pricey but I'm always looking to improve if possible!

it was smaller , cant remember exact weight but smelled great. Mixed it with cheaper hay and is quite compressed. I think its worth the money as very soft and green. My lot loved it. Only 3 pound something so worth a try to see if you think it is worth it

Thanks for your "review" of the hay! I have a hay problem right now - I buy a months worth for my horse at a time and the rabbit and guinea pigs all eat the same hay. Its from the farm where I keep my horse. Usually its lovely and dust free meadow hay but the new load I have just got is making my horse cough so badly that I dare not feed it to my guinea pigs/bunny.

So rather annoyingly, having a barn full of hay, I am having to soak it for the horse and will have to buy some pet shop hay for the small furries :(

So, tescos is OK then? What about Wilkinsons and the stuff they sell in B&M?

I love the range hay, been buying for a year and only had one dud bag its fresh, not dusty and long strands vs wilkos :-) I like Tesco hay its just pricey tbh. I feed timothy to my piggies though but the rabbits are on meadow right now, farm bale as it happens but going back to the range for ease of storage more than anything.

I used to buy the B&M hay for my rabbits (also sold in asda but a lot more expensive) in the summer as it was long green strands and it smelt lovely :) Also a great price, £3.50 for 3.5kg.
The last winter stock however hasn't been great so I've gone to the local horse farm shops and bought the dust free bales from them.

I too use Natures Own meadow hay from the range. I very rarely have any problems with it. I also often buy a bag of the b and m hay which is also quite good.

However, I have noticed a decline in the quality of meadow hay these last couple of months but that includes all brands I have tried and not just one.

I am putting it down to all the poor wet weather we have been having. Natures own hay comes from Devon where I know it has been particularly bad. It was the same a couple of years ago when we had the cold and snowy winter.

Thanks! I have annoyingly £40 worth of hay! But I dare not use it! My horse is coughing and wheezing right now. It might not be the hay as he has a range of health problems, including a heart murmur, the vet is coming this afternoon to him to check him out as hes struggling to breath.

Usually the hay is fine from our farm. I have not said anything to the farmer, he would be devestated if he thought his hay was not good. Not risking it for the piggies though. They are so prone to respiratory problems its not worth the risk :(

I wasn't mad keen on b&m and wilko hay, quite dusty and short but maybe I'm just unlucky or too fussy. My local pet shop sells lovely farm hay for 90 pence a bag and my other pet shop sells good bags of hay but can't remember the name. Will post it when I know.

On the hay note watchout for snowflake hay I got two large bags recently both of which seemed dampish they smelt horrible and I had to bin them. This is sold in homebatgains and other places.

I love morrisons hay as it is soft and lovely £1 for 750gms or £2 for 1.5 kilos.

I like to have a mix of hays on hand so at minute I am using morrisons and a farm bale alternatively in litter trays and wilkos timothy in hay racks.

my smaller pigs are not getting the farm hay as sophie was little when she got her hau poke so I don't want to risk it with longer hay until they are more grown up.
