Haggis is my little boar and has had a bit of a traumatic start to life - I thought I would share it with you all to show how amazing he is, I am so proud of my little fighter!

I am a Veterinary Nurse and have a big soft spot for anyone that needs a temporary, or permanent home!

At 2 days old he was brought in to be euthanased by his breeder as he had a deformed forelimb. He was so tiny, but so full of character we just couldn't do it. We went back to the breeder and they agreed to sign him over and he came home with me.

He settled with no problems, was reared happily but the leg started to cause him trouble. We had to make the decision at 4 weeks old to amputate the leg.

This is a link to the pictures of his surgery on the day - nothing gory!

Now, he is almost 6 months old and is so happy and healthy, its like he never had to go through all this. I have to castrate him in the next couple of weeks so he can have a friend to live with, but I don't regret a second of the time or money put into my boy. He is spoilt rotten and all who meet him love him!

Hope this has put a smile on some faces, but also has given people a little more confidence in the veterinary profession - there are some good eggs out here who will do what they can to help! Happy to answer any questions you have for me to the best of my knowledge, but I am a nurse not a vet ;)

Thank you so much for saving him! It's so nice to hear of people out there who are willing to help animals. Glad to hear he is doing well - and of course extremely happy to hear that you took him in - a healthy piggy should never have to be euthanised.

Thank you so much for posting the link, it's very reassuring to see. Haggis is soooooooo adorable! x) x) x)

I agree, nothing is euthanased when I am around unless we really have legally no choice. Signing things over seems to be part of my daily work, and explains why my house is always full! I take on the wildlife too, so spring is full of baby birds and hand rears, exhausting - but SO worth it.

It is wonderful you decided to give Haggis a chance. He is adorable.

What a lovely story, such a shame people see animals as disposable it makes me :)>>>

He is a very lucky lad to have fallen into your hands .... now he can have a happy life x>>

What a lovely story! I found those pictures fascinating as my Daisy (see pic < ) had an abscess removed from her back leg a month ago. He's a very lucky boy to have found you!

Welcome to the site, I think your input will be very valuable :)

He really is one very lucky boar......... x)
Thanks Emmy for saving little Haggis XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

you do realise you'll have to post more pigture of this little guy..... x):)) and keep us all updated!

What a special little guy, thank you for sharing his story with us! he is lovely x)

You & Haggis are living proof of what Peter Gurney says about piggy euthanasia. Like people, it should be a last resort. No one kills people where an amputated leg will do! I am glad Haggis has come through it all so well.
