I just saw an ad on preloved of someone selling their male rabbit and female guinea pig for £5 each because they found out they couldn't breed the two together....WHAT?!

I hope for the poor Guineas sake the Rabbit didn't try :(

I was expecting stupidity when I opened this thread but that's beyond even what I'd thought it might be! How can anyone possibly think that would work?! Far less think it was a good idea....

Wow. That is stupidity on a whole new level. Those poor animals don't stand a chance :(

OMG! I hope that a rescue can get hold of those poor animals to ensure a safe future.

The young boys who live next door to me used to have a large muscular rabbit. One of the boys once asked me if rabbits eat guinea pigs!
When I told him No, he didn't believe me. They used to let the rabbit run loose in their small garden after dark. I t was loose one day when a friend of the mother started strimming the lawn. I heard him call out "God, I nearly hit the rabbit!" This rabbit escaped from the garden at least 3 times, but they didn't go looking for it like you or I would. They thought it would find its own way home!

If its the one I read, I read it differently but I might be wrong. i read it as they cant be bred as they are done

Has anyone contacted the sellers (politely) to suggest a rescue may be able to help?

I have just called up the ad again and they are in ramsgate.

Yes it must be the same ad @Law Ram as I'm in Ramsgate too! I may suggest a rescue, but I didn't read that they had been done :/ Hopefully they have been and I severely misinterpreted it!

they just put "cannt breed" so I do was thinking that they cant be bred for further people

I really hope so, although in this context with no further explanation I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's what I first thought! Poor furries, being sold for £5 each :(

My beautiful Lewis guinea pig was rescued from a garden centre where, having lost his brother, the staff put an extremely young doe rabbit in with him for company. When I saw him later that day, he was rogering her senseless, and the staff were praising themselves on "such a good match"

Obviously there would be no progeny - but it still amazes me how many people out there still think putting rabbits and piggies together (for whatever reason) is acceptable.
