Not sure if this is the right forum but it's photos...

My youngest asked for a "hamster for a pett" [sic] for Christmas. He was told no and later I realised he never meant a hamster, he was thinking of piggies. After a lot of thought we agreed that he could have them for his birthday (we had been talking about a pet for long enough, hanging it on his birthday makes little difference to the commitment ;) ) So, what more could a little boy want than his piggies immortalised in cake? I'm pleased with their back ends, less so their fronts, but they'll do. Just got to work out where to put the candles!

Wowee!

How did you texture the icing on the piggies? And the grass looks great too.... how do you do that?

These are fabulous, I like Jenny cakes bottom!
Thank you :) I'm particularly pleased with how her back end turned out! I managed to get her diagonal dark stripe and everything!

Thanks. The texture was done with a fork or a pastry brush. There were several batches of butter icing that ended up different textures once coloured so some were a bit thick to use the brush on. The grass was piped on using an actual nozzle called a "grass nozzle". I'd never used one before but it was good fun! It would make good fur if you were doing an Oscar the Grouch type cake too.

Thanks all. I didn't think it through though and someone got to take Timmy's head in their lunchbox to school! It was tricky deciding where to cut, didn't matter where I did it, it felt brutal! Tasted good though.

^ I just read your reply completely out of context, forgetting what this thread is about, and for a moment my heart sank...like WTF?!

Then I thought maybe you meant hair instead of head....

What flavour was he?!

He was marbled chocolate and plain sponge because my son couldn't decide which he would prefer. My husband wanted me to put jam in for extra effect when he was cut but I put my foot down there!
