A small village near Glasgow, in rainy Scotland!
Tribble. The little black baby pig. He's had a hard time of it. Finally over the respitory infection he, his brother and sister (and uncle patches and squeaky!) all had. I think the gorgeous wee boy is out of the woods, so indulge in a rare night away from the pigs that have been running my life to fuss my OH, who was feeling neglected.

Mother happily fed the piggies for me in the morning.

I get home in the afternoon, around five o'clock, and then I noticed that little Tribble, the black baby boar, was dribbling! (And was soaked with the dribble!)

Promptly terrified with visions of broken teeth, mouth ulcers, bloat and other terrifying diagnosis.... We called the vet and rushed off. Over the phone he suggested baytril, but considering the babies have been on that, I knew that wouldn't help. He suggested Metacam, but as I had none i insisted that little Tribble see him.

We rushed off to the vets, and during an expert exam of his tiny mouth with a big light, the vet removed some bits of cucumber. Made a joke about piggies mouths always being full of food...Then he "Ah-ha!"ed, and moved on through into the back room, and did some complicated procedure with forceps.

He produced a large peice of turnip, about half the size of a five pence coin! It had got stuck at the back of his mouth and he couldn't swallow it properly.

Just as well we went to the vets, hate to think what would've happened had we not got it out from his mouth...But at the same time, relieved that it wasn't something insanely complicated and terrifying with teeth in a tiny little baby.

So....dribbling...could be food, not teeth!

Thank goodness he was ok Susie, and well done you for taking quick action by insisting the vet see him. It could have been a very different story. Greedy little critters they are...........

Lots of love to you

Helen.

Crikey, I'm pleased it was something easily sorted, but what a worry. It's something to think about if others see this happening. I sometimes see a pig throwing his head back whilst eating and having a good few attempts at it too, I guess that would be a similar thing?

Tribble is a fantastic name by the way (Sci fi fan here!)

aww, poor little tribble! eyes bigger than stomach (or should i say throat?) thank goodness you had the sense to get straight to the vets

Awww bless him! Good on you for being so persistent about him being seen. I'm sure he'll be feeling much better now :)

Goodness, I'm glad he is okay! Good on you for insisting he be seen. :)

There was a young piggy called Tribble
And he had a bit of a dribble
He went to the vet
Who found that he'd "ett"
A large neep instead of a nibble!

Hope young Tribble is doing OK now, lovely little mite that he is!

Oh Knock! What a fantastic poem. That's going in my piggy diary...hee hee. Thank you!

And thanks everyone for your comments. I am so pleased I insisted the vet saw him as well. I mostly posted this thread as I want people to be aware that these things can happen, and it's not always the worst prognosis.
