The Wheaky Beans herd

They fought and both had blood around their mouths. Espresso has a gash in the corner of her lip and Aperol has a tiny gash in his bottom lip (his feet and nose were covered in blood so think he’s tried to clean himself!) 😓 I’ve cleaned their wounds, given them loxicom and they’ve now been separated with the division bars back up. Hopefully they can begin to rest up and recover a bit from the last week of dramatic events. I’m in love with my ginger boy so I’ve decided to just let them live side by side knowing they entertain each other but can’t take a chunk out of each other!

I’m sorry it didn’t work out as hoped, but at least you will get to enjoy Aperol and both piggies will be able to enjoy companionship from a safe distance.

Ah I’m sorry to read this …I thought maybe ….
It’s lovely that you have decided to keep Aperol 🥰
Both such beautiful piggies ……both such stubborn little potatoes ❤️

Tweedle Dee and Dumb have been vet checked and thankfully each of their wounds is healing well. It was a shock to find Espresso with blood on the corner of her mouth and Aperol with bloody feet, nose and a small cut on his bottom lip where he’d managed to bite himself (after biting Espresso!). They’re now recovering from the incident with the occasional rumble between bars. Pig slave is ready for an actual Aperol spritz after work to unwind and welcome in this next piggy chapter!

Tribute post to Macchiato:

It has taken me a long time to come to terms with losing Maccy as there’s been a lot going on in my life, leaving little time to grieve.

My beautiful girl arrived from Ayrs Guinea Pig Rescue with her baby niece Espresso, rescued from a hoarding situation. I can’t begin to imagine the stresses she had in the first 12 months of her life. If anything this experience shaped her into the bravest, most calm piggy I’ve ever owned.

She was dealt a myriad of health problems over the course of her life, quickly becoming my million dollar piggy! She remarkably bounced back after countless surgeries and medications thrown her way, facing every health challenge she had with humility and strength. In turn, I spent countless hours tending to her medical needs which grew into a deep bond and affection for her, arguably more than any other pig. Her biting on the bars for her loxicom and giving me a gentle nibble after being handled all became a part of my daily guinea pig mum life and still, she carried on as if nothing was wrong with her. She was a wonder!

Maccy was so chilled out, she was the anchor and balance in her girl squad trio with bossy, stubborn Cappuccino and timid, tiny Espresso. The only time she got sassy was when the others tried to steal her favourite hay cookies or Espresso got in her personal space too much. A short nip would put her niece back in line! Her favourite pastime was eating grass outside in the summer (she’d periodically stop and smell the fresh air!) and receiving ear massages where she’d melt into my lap, fully relaxed. She also loved her daily Emeraid feeds with a passion and was surprisingly strong at trying to grab the syringe and run!

I hope Maccy is relaxing at the rainbow bridge with her best pal Cino. 🌈💖

I’ve happily discovered that Aperol and Espresso can tolerate each other during supervised grass time outside so they got a small dose of Vitamin D today while I gardened!
Maybe you can put them together for some supervised time each day. Not the recommended way of living together but guinea pigs aren't very good at following rules. 🙈

Yes if I’ve learnt anything over the last two months, it is that guinea pigs are extremely unpredictable!

I had two old girls who didn't get on. This was years ago before I knew much about bonding. They tolerated each other in a garden run, at a friend's place since I didn't have access to a garden back then. In fact when I first put them in, they pretended not to notice each other. I had them there over the course of a few days, just for about an hour a day while I watered plants etc and gradually they started to interact and the final day they showed they didn't even want to be separated for the trip home - which up till then had been one per pet carrier. After that they lived in one cage at home and were quite attached to each other. One got arthritic-cy with time and they used to lean on each other or sit bum-to-bum with heads pointing away.

What a lovely tribute to such a well loved piggy.
Be gentle with yourself as you continue to grieve.

Sorry that things didn’t work out with the bonding.
Living side by side will be fine.

I hope so as the rescue said living side by side isn’t ideal but I’m exhausted travelling for hours to try another possible companion for it to not work. I love Aperol so much as I’ve had him about a month now so don’t see how I could return him (they’ve not specifically asked me to). Yet, when I come on this forum, everyone’s piggies seem happy living side by side with the appropriate space and enrichment!

My boar piggies are in separate cages. They seem happy. They get a good well maintained cloud of pheromones drifting into their cages (which I can't smell luckily) and notice very quickly when their counterpart gets all the attention or all the pets 🥰

That’s reassuring to hear although I hope I don’t smell l’eau piggy in their room anytime soon! 😆

Espresso and Aperol had a play date while I was cleaning their cage. They engaged in their favourite pastime of chasing each other round in circles doing the humping dance! They’re now munching on veggies in their tidy cages.

They are certainly socialising 😉🥰
