The Wheaky Beans herd

It’s four years to the day that I picked up Espresso from the rescue as a 6 month old 🥰 She’s getting a play date with Aperol later while I clean out their cages!
Have a lovely Gotcha Day sweet Espresso. I hope you have a nice time with your part time boyf 🥰🎂🎉🎊

She chased him about trying to hump him, popcorned and he hid in the fleece to get some peace! I keep the interactions short and supervised but he seems to put up with her. He’s happily snoozing in his own snuggle sack now!

The relationship works better 😄🥰

Pig mum almost had a heart attack last night when she found Aperol not moving in his snuggle sack even when gently stroking him. He was so still. Turns out he loves deep death naps and eventually squealed in protest at being disturbed in his fleecy lair! 😅

The munchkins were munching on their veggies together earlier. Swiftly followed by teeth chattering and quickly scooped back into their own cages! I’m still gauging if they can spend time together and if so, for how long before things potentially escalate. It’s hard to know when that tipping point is!

They’ve both had a half hour grass play date before they started squaring off with each other again. Split them up then Aperol does multiple popcorns once reunited with his cage! Think they still overall benefit from each other’s company but needs to be under supervision and in small doses. It’s a tropical 17C here in Scotland today!

Tribute post to Macchiato:

It has taken me a long time to come to terms with losing Maccy as there’s been a lot going on in my life, leaving little time to grieve.

My beautiful girl arrived from Ayrs Guinea Pig Rescue with her baby niece Espresso, rescued from a hoarding situation. I can’t begin to imagine the stresses she had in the first 12 months of her life. If anything this experience shaped her into the bravest, most calm piggy I’ve ever owned.

She was dealt a myriad of health problems over the course of her life, quickly becoming my million dollar piggy! She remarkably bounced back after countless surgeries and medications thrown her way, facing every health challenge she had with humility and strength. In turn, I spent countless hours tending to her medical needs which grew into a deep bond and affection for her, arguably more than any other pig. Her biting on the bars for her loxicom and giving me a gentle nibble after being handled all became a part of my daily guinea pig mum life and still, she carried on as if nothing was wrong with her. She was a wonder!

Maccy was so chilled out, she was the anchor and balance in her girl squad trio with bossy, stubborn Cappuccino and timid, tiny Espresso. The only time she got sassy was when the others tried to steal her favourite hay cookies or Espresso got in her personal space too much. A short nip would put her niece back in line! Her favourite pastime was eating grass outside in the summer (she’d periodically stop and smell the fresh air!) and receiving ear massages where she’d melt into my lap, fully relaxed. She also loved her daily Emeraid feeds with a passion and was surprisingly strong at trying to grab the syringe and run!

I hope Maccy is relaxing at the rainbow bridge with her best pal Cino. 🌈💖
Such a lovely tribute to Macchiato ❤️

Pig dad kindly went out and bought the Beans some cucumber to keep them cool during this heat wave while mum was at work. It has been a constant 22C in their room with the curtains drawn and windows closed. We’re just grateful to live that bit further north although the temperatures are still 10C hotter than average.
