I cut the nails of the piggies for the first time just now, and I feel so bad about Penelope, I managed to cut two of her nails too far in, the first one wasn't so bad, but on the second, she started bleeding bad, my hand looks like it has killed someone. It was her fault though, just when I cut it, she decided to be naughty O.o Luckily that was the last nail, so I got her back to the cage, and she got some cucumber and cuddles to make up, I think she has forgiven me, and the nail has almost stopped bleeding ^^ Mercedes, on the other hand, she behaved like I cut her nails every day, though she too was a bit insulted after, so she also got cucumber, that little angel. So I guess I'm gonna need a lot of cucumber the next time Penelope needs a manicure ::)
 
best to keep some styptic pencil in the cupboard, which you can get in any chemist to stop the bleeding, for now put on a bit of Vaseline on the toe nail to stop the bleeding.
 
Do you have any vaseline or savlon ? If so id apply it to the nails which re bleeding and next time if you cant do Penelopes or feel too nervous doing it then the vets can do it for you and they could show you properly how to do it and even how to hold them correctly and they also offer advice if you need any if you feel bad about cutting any further O0 as cutting their quick can be very painful ;)
 
Yup, I was just downstairs to look for something I could use, but her bleeding has completely stopped now ^^ And I just don't trust the vet here, I live in a small place where the vets basically only get cats and dogs in, so I followed a holding and cutting instruction from a page, and I'm used to rabbits who have much larger nails, that could also be a reason for the result >< But she looks and behaves normal now, though I'm sure it burns a bit, poor thing.
 
Oh right ;) Lets hope youll soon be an expert on cutting their nails O0
 
it gets alot easier the more you do it, ive just cut all 3 of mine and i have learnt the best way in which to cut their nails. they all are easier to do in different positions, so its just a case of remembering who likes being held, sat on sofa and sat on lap when i do it ::)
 
Yeah, I probably should have used a towel, I'll remember that next time ^^ And I guess you have a point there, Maisynpoppy, I'll try to do something like that the next time, especially with Penelope!
