ok my pig Teela has been tipping the food bowl lately and its driving me nuts, cause then they just look at me like "its not going to clean itself" after they do it. I have a porcelain food bowl and filled to the rim but they still manage to tip the thing over. Does anyone know of anything i can do to prevent this from happening?

(and as i typed this she tipped it again and food is alll over the place now)

Hi Kristin,

Mine do this all the time - I think they think its a game.

They actually turn their veggie bowls right over upside down as if to say - right mum - we have finished now.............

Dunno how you would stop it though.

Love Helen.

Mine do that with there veggie bowl I thought mine were just been cheeky. I'm sure they expect me to go and get more if they do it

^)My piggies do that too so now I put the food on a spare tile and they drag it into the bedroom to eat it lol so when I clean the cage I always find little bits of carrot burried rolleyes

my pheobe does that! rolleyes she also kind of dives into the foodbowl! malletheadmalletheadmallethead

good idea for fit piggies but my bertie would stave to death he's old, got arthritis in back legs and he's lazy... I'd rather they ttipped the bowl and I out it back 20 times... It's a bonding opportunity, me thinks...

You can put them down as far as the cage will let you. My old girl has no problem with them, she still lays down to eat out of them lol. So its depends on your cage i suppose:)
Forgot to add, you can get them in different sizes too and theyre cheap:)

good idea but my cage's tray goes up to nearly 4 in, not good for my lazy boy, but ta for the reference, might use it in the future...:)

I have the answer! Coop cups, the bird bowls like these http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Z4M7XXV9L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
You hook them onto the bars or meshy bit on the cage. You can get them from pretty much all pet shops, theyll be in the bird bit:)

I have one of these but with the bolt on stand! its great. I keep mine on the shelf so the boys have a food bowl each but they kept shoving the normal one off its not really any taller than an average bowl

I'm not sure if you can see it well but its the silver thing on the ferplast shelf... pic taken a couple of weeks ago

Its not all that big! I'm actually looking for a larger one for my boys

Its a ferplast 100 with some ferplast tubing and a corner shelf (tubes and corner shelf bought extra) The boys love it but they are both still babies. they will **** be too big for the tube in 3/4 months time. But I'm hoping to have bought a bigger cage

thanks for all the help, I'm going to try one of those bird ones or a feeder.

hmmm, I see. I like the set up though, Finaly would love it but Bertie just wouldn't be able to jump anywhere. Bless... :))

It's Riff's favourite game. I could never stop him doing it, it's such fun.

I got one of those gravity feeder things, no ones tipping that thing thats for sure lol.

*ignore all the poops..its what they do * lol

Glad you found something that works for you and your piggies. Just remember to clean the whole feeder out very regularly. :)

If anything containing feed is not cleaned regularly (including plastic storage containers, scoops and the actual food dishes) there is a risk of bacteria/fungal spores building where the feed has been. Especially with gravity feeders, where food may sit for some time, the chance of this happening must be eliminated - by regular cleaning.
I clean dishes daily and clean the container and scoop every two weeks. For gravity feeders, washing it out at least once a week in hot soapy water should be sufficient to keep it healthy and clean.
