Does anyone else's pigs have rather loud tummies?
Baxter's sounds like a little growling bear rolleyes I fed him this morning, I promise!

mine don't rumble precisely but they do burp, and do piggy rear end wind passing (ok being polite - fart). they eat so quickly you would think they were starved and they certainly aren't....some very weird noises indeed.:{

My Sancho has a very rumbly tummy, and farts occasionally too!:)) He is very healthy and fit so I am not worried about it. I am sure in some pigs (just as with humans) you hear wind going through the intestines more than you do in others. If the guinea is off its food, or looks uncomfortable, then you should look into it a bit more but if they are happy and eating well, then I would say it's just the way they are. :)

I have to say that I would be concerned if I heard noises of that kind from my pigs. In all honesty, I would suspect bloat (perhaps a mild case).

My piggies live in my home office and I can honestly say that I have never heard a fart or tummy rumble.

It can be rather amazing how loud - and smelly! - the "works" of a piggy can be compared to its size!

Glad B isn't the only one :)

He'll just be lying there snoozing and suddenly his tummy just gurgles like mad... earlier I turned round thinking he was actually talking but no, he was dozing away... rolleyes

I've only heard Sancho's rumbles and flatulence if I have my ear (or hand!) close to him. I'd never heard this before I got Sancho, neither of my girl guineas had ever made these noises. When I heard it, I was worried about bloat immediately and reduced all gassy veg. but 5 months on (he's a 2 year old rescue pig), he seems perfectly healthy and is on the same diet as my other pig. His stools are normal and his stomach is firm but not distended or hollow sounding.

I thought it was safe (in this instance) to conclude that it is just the noise his tummy makes, but I would be interested to hear about cases where these noises may indicate more serious problems. I know I should look out for signs of blockage and bloating but I thought serious bloat (which causes major discomfort to a guinea) would be coupled with other symptoms; lack of appetite, lethargy and a change in bowel movements.

I only mentioned it because the only time I have heard a rumbling from a small furry was when my rabbit Narla had mild bloat. I actually thought it was my tummy rumbling it was so noisy. She also did a number of tiny, ladylike farts! At the time I had no idea that it could be life-threatening in rabbits and I found it quite funny. She did recover very quickly, so I was very lucky. Rabbit owners have all sorts of remedies that they use to relieve bloat, such as gripe water and other things as I think it is a bigger problem in bunnies than in pigs.

I have never once heard Gilbert fart :(|) I would actually be interested in hearing it..call me weird:p but it's just cause I can't see it happening LOL

It's worth looking at the diet if tummy gurglings are quite loud. Mine used to be until I adjusted the diet. It wasn't a 'problem' so much as things could be improved!

Removal or limitation of brassica veg - cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts - and limited sugary foods (e.g. peppers and fruits) tends to go a long way in improving digestion for those piggies with noisy tums.

Most of my rumbly tummies occurred after too much fresh grass.

Baxter doesn't have bloat :) he's a very sturdy chap :) he is prone to small tummy upsets, but baytril clears it up and doesn't stop him eating! apart from his poops being a little soft you wouldn't know anything was wrong, and unfortunately even when he's sorted it doesn't stop him from rumbling and trumping :))

I have had a guinea with bloat before, and that is a life threatening condition. You'll know when a guinea has serious bloat, when my Pippi had it she was knocking at death's door for 24 hours, we were so lucky she made it through. It was truly awful to see her in so much pain and discomfort. It was caused by a blockage in her intestines from eating something she shouldn't have, a tiny piece of foam. She had a rumble in her tummy then too, but her other symptoms made it very clear to me that she was suffering badly, not like Sancho who is pretty normal otherwise. I am sure he just has gas. :)) I must admit I haven't noticed it as much recently with him. Perhaps he has now got used to the rich and varied foods he's getting from us.

Funny this subject should be brought up, I was having a cuddle with Teddy last night and although i didn't hear anything there was a wiffy smell all of a sudden. I said to him ''have you farted?'' and he just gave me this look, that only boys do if they've farted :)) I didn't realise piggies could fart! lol

On a more serious note bloat is scary Flash had it last year and was in hospital for 2nights, thankfully he made a full recovery!
