They are determined to decimate my vet fund! Just as I’ve got Luna better from her illness, I’ve just come out to clean out the piggies hutch to find Popcorn with what looks to be haypoke - he was fine when I fed them an hour and a half ago! Off to the vet right now!

Hopefully you’ve caught the haypoke quickly so Popcorn’s eye hasn’t been too badly damaged.

Oh no Popcorn! You’ve caught it quickly so hopefully will be fine.

Having similar issues myself! Hope Popcorn is ok. :)

We are back home from the vet now.

Vet said she was so glad I’d got him seen so quickly - she found a 1cm grass seed wedged under his eyelid which has scratched his eye rather badly.

His eye was absolutely fine at 8am so between then and 9.30am some rather nasty damage had already been done. He’s got the usual treatment for a week but has a check up booked for Monday evening. She is confident the prompt treatment will make all the difference though.

@Kellykels - I hope your piggies are ok

Glad you were able to get him seen so quickly. Get well soon Popcorn. Accept your meds like a trooper 😘

He was a nightmare the first time he got haypoke but in his defence he had only been here six weeks and was terrified of everything. He is easier to handle now 2.5 years later so hopefully he will behave!
He is currently sulking following his awful morning but he’s going to get a rare treat of a carrot slice for being such a good boy!

I'm glad you got your boy treated.
My pigs are fine.
Womble is in for his neutering today.

The last two months have been difficult though.
Stripe wasn't well for a while, then he died, then the babies had an infection, then Pinto's eye was sore, now the neutering and all the treated associated with that.
So I know what you're going through.
I am just hoping this neutering is straight forward and we don't end up having to critical care Womble. :(
So wishing you all the luck and health for your guineas in the world.

Sending you hugs and best wishes. I hope all goes well

Hope Popcorn's eye gets better quickly. I've had a year where I have paid the vets wages too. Expensive these little creatures that steal your heart aren't they?

They certainly are.

I did have to warn the piggies though that if they keep this up, I’ll start taking the vet money from their ‘new shed fund’ - if they want their new home, they have to do their bit to help!

I think we’ll allow the sulking. I’m sure the treat will make up for it.
@Kellykels all the best with the neutering today. Tell Womble we’re all rooting for him. And please do give us an update when you can.

I will try. I haven't heard anything from then yet. I'm hoping no news, is good news. I will call at one pm which is what they told me to do if I hadn't been called.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hi all, just phoned the vet.
My boy is only just coming around from the anaesthetic and has just gone back to the small mammal room to recover.
I know what he's like, he'll be like an angry little teddy bear. Adorable but furious looking. All is set to pick him up at 4:30. The anaesthetic hurdle has been jumped and cleared, which was my first worry. Let's try and jump and clear the infection hurdle next. :)

Sorry put this on the wrong thread, Sorry Piggies&buns.

It’s obviously a good thing you caught Popcorn’s haypoke so quickly.
It sounds as if it could have been very nasty if you hadn’t.
Hope the treatment works quickly and the eye heals soon.
