hi , is this normal , I think we are feeding them ok , unlimited supply of quality hay , always got a quality guinea pig mix "I'm told by the shop" , strawberys on occasion , carrot every third day , bit of orange on occasion , cucumber here n there?
I dont know if I should be worried if they are nibbleing on paper and cardboard they would be digesting minimal amounts from what I can see

if you go into some of the sticky threads theres a couple of pages on the correct diet for guinea pigs :)

and mine are always nibbling on the newspaper and it hasnt done them any harm

mine have unlimited hay, fresh veg every day, fruit every other day..and an abundance of toys for them to play with and STILL eat the paper and card :))

i cant work out if they like the taste or just like to give me more cleaning :(|)

Hi! Here is a good thread about a balanced, healthy diet based on the recommendations from the leading medical website for guinea pigs, guinealynx:
http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=37030

Here is a list of what guinea pigs can eat:
http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=42

Basically unlimited hay (should make up to 80% of their diet), 1 cupful/50g of mixed veg per piggy per day in one ore more servings and some pellets, plenty when under 6 months old and then slowly reduced to about 1/2 handful for adults. Pellets are better than muesli.

Paper and cardboard are a bit of an obsession with piggies. If you stuff the cardboard inside of a toilet roll with hay, you have a splendid toy that wont hurt when eaten. if you wish, you can hang the toilet roll from a string in order to make things more interesting!

I had this with one of my girls Maude, who when I stuffed a paper bag full of hay was more intrested in eating the bag!
