Just been in a pet shop and seen this! I'm outraged does this mean if they sell a pregnant pig or a male and a female together they aren't responsible for it!?

That is totally unbelievable.
The age part I do understand, but gender?
If they are qualified to sell live animals, then they must be able to tell gender, as this can have a very direct impact on the subsequent quality of life (for example if they sell a mixed sex pair to inexperienced owners, the consequences could be awful).
I would complain strongly to both management in the store and head office.
Surely this is a welfare issue and the RSPCA (or someone) should also be involved?

I think I'm going to write to head office and to the council. If I write to council they have to inspect the premises too. There was flies everywhere I even mentioned to the manager. She said that the head office wouldn't supply air con or fans...she was the assistant manager. I said oh so you and the animals have to suffer in the warm stuffy air, she said pretty much :/

Actually it was not lol it begins with a J I didn't want to say the name incase it wasn't allowed on the forum x

Is that a crestie/reptile tank it's on or underneath? I can understand not being able to verify reptile genders but mammals are easy :/

Jolleys? XD

I haven't been in one for years because they're horrible with animals. I'd even go as far to say they're worse than P@H.

Yes it was jolleys. I had an incident in there as a Japanese mouse was dead under all the other mice :( it was a few months ago. We told manager then and she wasn't really bothered then a bird was bleeding not bothered she just said oh I know...

What are they like to their own animals!

I hope you took plenty of photos?

I doubt they would listen anyway :( we live in a cruel world that only look after themselves some people have no respect or love for animals is disgusting :( it's one thing that isn't taught in school after like the first few years is caring for animals and how to treat them! X

Grrr how irresponsible! And I feel bad for anyone who may not know better and get in over their head with a breeding situation If they get pigs of the opposite sex >:( not fair to the piggies either! If they don't have someone qualified to check for sex they shouldn't be selling guinea pigs!

I know the shop you're on about. Online they have mealworms in the guineapig food category!?! :yikes:
I'm hoping it's just an error!

Edit: I was on about a different shop starting with the same letter ;)
