Pigglywink's Rachel
Well, as some of you know, I was getting everything set up to get guinea pigs (two this time, since I feel bad about poor Pigglywink having to live her short life alone). They've come home now, and I'll get pictures up as soon as my friend finds the cable for his camera (that I borrowed).
They're both girls, both short-haired. There's a six week old baby who's fur is silver, with a white tummy, and very soft (feels and looks like a chinchilla, minus the long tail), and her friend that she's been living with since being weaned (three weeks ago), who is a four month old white and red, although her fur is more coarse and wiry.
I've just got them home, and am waiting for them to settle into their nice big hutch in the living room, and am ever so excited. I've provided them with two hidey holes (so they won't fight), but they're currently in the process of deciding which is the most comfortable as they go back and forth between the two together, cuddling for a few minutes in each one before one or the other will run to the other one and the second will follow. At first I was worried that one was trying to get away from the other, until I realized that they're taking turns moving first, and seem quite happy to be cuddling together.
I've decided to just leave them alone for a few days (except for feeding, of course) to give them time to settle in before I try taking them out for cuddles, although I am trying to hand feed them their veggies so they'll learn to associate my scent with pleasant things (like dill and peppers and coriander) rather than scary things (like sudden flights into the air).
I'll be asking lots of questions for the next little bit as I try to sort things out, but couldn't wait to let everyone know that they've come home.
