Yay, after a couple of months of planning I've finally got my girlies today. I've had various other pets but not piggies so I've done lots of research, mainly on here. Thanks so much for all the advice many of you have given me.

I collected Betty and Bertha after lunch, they were pretty freaked out and hid straight away (to be expected) I checked on them after tea and they'd been out of the house which I was pleased about.

I sat with them for an hour this evening. They didn't come out of the house but at the same time the lady from the rescue rang to ask how they'd settled in and recommended I pick them up and cuddle in a towel. They didn't really like being picked up but once on my knee seemed happy. Certainly didn't fight to get away.

I really hope they'll be happy here. I'm sure they will be, just hate to think that they may be really scared at the moment.

Pics to follow, they're just a little camera shy at the moment!

ah that's fab, can't wait to see pictures. Piggies are the most awesome critters in the world :)

your pigs?! Hang on a minute - weren't these supposed to be your son's birthday present? No mention of the birthday boy?! lol hope he.s enjoying his day and you both enjoy the piggies x

Ha ha ha Tabelmabel! It's not actually my son's birtday until tomorrow but I had to pick the girls up on Monday so I've had them hidden in the spare room praying Zac didn't wander in there. almost 2 days of them being mine all mine before I have to start sharing tomorrow!

I'm working tonight so rang my husband to make sure he'd checked on them. He had, and had had a cuddle with Bertha (who had seemed very comfy with the cuddles - yay) and told him what veg to give them. He was shocked "they eat better then we do" was the comment I got!

Just can't wait to see Zac's face tomorrow, he is going to be so delighted he's got them. EXCITED!

We hear that a lot,"eating better than I/we do", now I have a huge drawer full of fresh food just for the piggies. :))

soon the first thing on your shopping list will be piggie food.

Can't wait for the photo's.

The eating thing is soooooo true, I read when researching before we got our pigs never to give the pigs any veg I wouldn't be happy to eat myself, but when they arrived I soon realized that my daughter eats as much of the pig veg as the pigs do, so there is absolutely no chance of us ever giving veg thats past its best, when my 3 year old insists on being the pigs taster rolleyes

Congratulations on your new arrivals :)

Hi there,
I have just joined 'GPF' last night after several weeks of browsing!
I Read your post (sallyg) a week or so ago and immediately recognised betty and bertha's photo from the HAWT website.
We had our home check last weekend and Connie and Amos will be joining our family on Friday (16th) yippee
Just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed reading your posts, and can relate to so many of your tales!
Really hope your beautiful lil piggies are settling in well (we saw them when we were at the centre) and hope that they are soon squealing for attention rather than hiding away! I am sure then will be.

Hi Welcome to the forum..

Well done on passing home check... :(|)

Hi Connie & Amos's mum! I looked at Connie and Amos at the centre, a gorgeous pair. How exciting for the 16th, let us know how they settle.

I'm loving having the girls here. They are already becoming more comfortable around us. Betty is sat in the living room chomping on melon. She wouldn't have come out of her house last night. We haven't had any happy chatting or squeaking yet but I'm sure they'll settle soon.

Zac was delighted when he saw them. He couldn't wait to tell his friends at school that he had guinea pigs!
