Thick Nails

Charlie has quite thick, brittle nails. On his back feet some of his toes are growing like double claws. They are very thick nails growing about half way up his existing ones. His nails also grow straight until they are quite long before they start to curl. Just checking that this is normal?

Can you get a photo? One of my old pigs had really wide nails, as long as they all touch the ground and aren't growing in a direction they shouldn't...

Here are some pics. Sorry they are really bad quality, my camera's rubbish and he wasn't being terribly co-operative!

This is the clearest one. These are his front paws. You can see the nails by my finger has an extra bit growing at the bottom. And the nail at the top of the picture is the same.

Again you can see in this one. The nail at the bottom of the picture

Also this morning I noticed he has a scabby toe! This is on his back foot. I picked a big scab off it, but the skin is very dry and hard. The picture is very unclear, but it's his middle toe, you can see the white scabs

Is there anything I can do for either of these problems? And could they be linked?

My Eleanor's nails are really thick and grow curled. My vet said it is just one of those things and nothing to worry about. Just try and keep the nails short and not let them grow to long.

I am not sure about the double nail but I doubt it is anything to worry about.
