We've seen this now a couple of times and am wondering what it could be. Cant really focus on a smell separate from the poopie smell, as they are attached, but is very white, thick, almost like a piece of cotton but more gel-like (similar to the stuff that absorbs water in baby diapers).

I think we had first seen it before we'd used meds for him, but incase any of these have something to do with it, will list ~ vit c, occasional simithecone, occasional meloxicam. I'm leaning toward none of these being the cause, however, as I think the first was prior to using these. We've been strictly on critical care and water/juice, so is a mystery, unless it is something from inside intestinal tract.

Does this sound familiar? I actually have a couple of pieces that i can try to photograph, if they will come out, so will do this shortly.

Would be great if you could post a photo, as sadly there are a multitude of different goos that males a prone too. At first i thought calcium deposit of sperm. Trust me, if it was calcuim you would know the smell. It honks. It is possibly sperm, as i have seen that get in some crazy places! :)

Do you have boars?

I think I know what youre referring to, and I believe (though dont quote me) its a normal boar thing - when they mark their territory, then drag their bums on the floor and they are marking it with a white substance which stinks to high heaven :)>>>

Quite often their poop picks some of that white substance up on the way out!

i thought of that as being a possibility, but that usually ends up as a moist smear on the floor and we've seen these as being very thick clumps, one being about the size of a blueberry, but usually less than the size of a pea, or even one was a long strand instead (almost like a worm, but is not a worm).

Hi, I am a guinea pig newbie but it sounds like what you're describing as mucous, would you describe it as such?

Its normal so dont worry. As others have said, its just from scent marking.

Its horrible to clean it and its stinks. I gag when i do it :red but it needs done :)

it did almost seem like dried mucous, and i know the markings (territorial scentings) well...usu they don't leave much of a remnant, though, as they drag their bums across the floor and create quite an odor. this was more of a thickened larger deposit, and sorry for not getting a photo quite yet, have been so busy with the little boy, work and trying to get a little sleep when he does. will try to find those pieces (that fell off igloo when we packed it for him for our trip) and take photo.

Is he an intact boar? Does he live with another un-neutered boar who humps him? If yes to either, it could be that what you are finding is "boar glue" which can appear in some most unexpected places :red
