Things About Owning Guineas That Have Come As A Shock

I would say my biggest shock has been the vet bills we've had over the last 3 years :( Guineas are not the easy first pet for children type of animal at all in my opinion :) People buy them thinking they are cheap to run & they are not. When things go wrong they are very costly. My eldest has cost around £1500 so far, one of the youngsters has had one op (£250) so has the other (Another £250) then recently another op (£450) & tests, x-rays etc. which fortunately is now covered by insurance. So these "Cheap" little furballs have already cost upwards of £2000 & counting, plus the food, bedding hay etc. If people want a cheap pet I always say buy a goldfish :D

They are worth It though!

- My 3 have a healthier diet than I do. Tesco must think I'm very green, with all the veg I buy.
- I'm moving in the near future and the space they require has become a bigger consideration than I first thought. Have been told this is madness by a friend who think unless they are paying the mortgage they should have no say.

Haha! All my tesco vouchers are now all veggies with the occassional bit of junk food thrown in for me!

I've recently been talking about the possibilities when I move and what I'll be able to afford - my friends think I'm crazy cos I said there's a good chance if I move to London I may have to give up the idea of having room for a sofa in favour of the pigs' cage!

My piggy is a highly skilled sneaky pooper. Doesn't matter how big a blanket you sit him on and keep him in the centre, he will sneak a poop over the side... Once he left one in my bed. I was not impressed!
