Dear Judith Wilson
I read the Article online (i'm in the UK) and was worried about a quote made by Kim Bell of the Humane Society about Guinea pigs make good compainions for rabbits
It is not recommended here in the Uk for rabbits and Guinea Pigs to be homed together for a number of reasons
Rabbits can carry Pastronella bacteria which can be harmful to guinea pigs
Rabbits can kick Guinea pigs resulting in severe injuries
Also Male Rabbits have been known to cause sexual injuries to guinea pigs
Also guinea pigs do communicate with each other and do need this 'squeaking' communication to stay happy
I have just wondered if the thinking is different in Canada?
I am part of a pro rescue forum that thou based in UK has members worldwide including Canada
theguineapigforum.co.uk
This is not meant to be malicious in anyway as obviously the person concerned obviously thinks this is ok
Thank you for reading this

Just Sent this hopefully not too blunt! ?

Just got the response

Dear Ron,

Thank you very much for your information. I have done some research on
guinea pigs and rabbits as companions, and actually found very little
and often conflicting information as to whether they can and should be
put together. I could not find any definitive, let alone repetitive
information to back anything up.

With the information you have provided, I will delve into it further and
share my conclusions with our branches and affiliated member societies.
The conflicting information I read about caused me to exclude
rabbit-guinea pig companionship as an option in the adopt-a-guinea pig
month package I sent to the branches and affiliates. However, some
facilities have been housing them together for quite some time without
issue, so it will take some time convincing them it is not advisable.

But thank you again for your information - I will definitely look into
this further and will educate our animal care givers and adopters alike.

Regards,
Judith Wilson

International Guinea Pig Rescue coming to the Rescue ... Just tickled me really!

I've got this awesome cute image of five cool guineas jumping into Thunderbird-style planes and jetting off to rescue other piggies - so cute!

Image number 2 just popped into my head: piggies jumping out of the back of the "A" Team van !
