Think Amber just came into season

Absolute kerfuffle in the guinea pig pen tonight. I think Amber has come into season as she is being quite agressive and keeps trying to mount Priscilla who is not at all impressed. I've ended up getting her out and sitting her on the sofa next to me to calm down for a little while. I had Priscilla pegged as dominant piggie but I guess not always.

I'm going to turn the light out in here is a bit and put her back as she'll probably go to sleep in the dark and hopefully will have settled down in the morning.

A sow in season can be very persistent in her affections towards the other piggie. My girls will tolerate the mounting and chasing for so long before giving the girl in season a quick nip to see her off. This will happen regularly and unless one of the piggies turns particularly aggressive and blood is drawn then you may be just as well letting them get on with it

I was quite surprised the first time one of my girls came into season...I was horrified to see her trying to mount her 'sissy'...lol Then found out how normal it is...she will get her turn as the less dominant when the other goes into season! ha ha...just wait til they coordinate and are in season together...lots of rumbling noises and chasing...but they figure it all out without any hurt feelings. My girls seem to take turns being dominant...they will each sit at the top of the ramp and refuse to let the other up...then next thing I know...the other one does it....just like real teenagers! lol

All is quiet again this morning. I think it probably is better to let them get on with it - one of the advantages of the big thick coat is that the odd nip is not very likely to do any real damage. I think it was much more noise and running about though.

Thats good they have settled. Usually if the mounted pig gets fed up and nips the other piggie its usually just a warning nip and I have never seen blood drawn with my girls.

They're fine again this evening, all is furry and calm.

I got them a proper pigloo instead of the shoe box and an interesting long fabric tunnel and they are having great fun running about and playing with them.

I'm awaiting some cavy cosies and then basil the chinchilla can have his wooden box back as well.
