Some of you may have read my other thread about trying to bond my piggy Daisy with a new piggy who I adopted from Hutches Rescue. The whole dominance process was a lot worse than I expected with aggressive teeth chattering a lunging towards each other so I made the trip back to Hutches with both pigs to let Joanne do the bonding as I didn't have the guts!

It's been 3 days and Joanne says they were snuggling together in a pigloo and she says it is looking good :)

I am going to pick them up on Sunday and have a few queries, should they travel home (2.5hrs) in the same carrier? and when they both go in to my cage they won't have to go through the full dominance stage again, will they?

Thanks

Oh this is great! I would take them home in the same carrier. They may have to establish dominance in a new environment but with sows there is unlikely to be any problems.

they should be bonded by now, but if you are worried, you can let them make the trip in separate carriers.
Upon arrival, let them have a quick session on neutral ground before putting them in cage. There is likely to be some dominance behaviour in new territory, but it is more in the way of an affirmation of the newly established hierarchy than actually the establishing of it, so it should be much shorter and much less nerve-wracking!
Some piggies go right up to line when bonding and it takes experience to distinguish between that and a failed bonding. I have been through a few of either so I feel for you! They are not for the fainthearted.

IThe good news is that once bonded, they can become the best of friends. I hope that hope that you and Daisy will enjoy her new friend now that the rough bit is out of the way. Ma
as you can make it. ;)

Ok, hopefully it's dry when I take them home and I can put them out in the run. If not, I'll let them explore around the floor.

Thanks Wiebke, they certainly are not for the fainthearted! it's good to hear others have been through the same :)

You can have them in the same carrier if you can sit next to them and keep an eye, otherwise, I would recommend them to travel separately as you will need your concentration for the road.

My boyfriend will be doing the driving this time so I will be able to keep my eye on them :)

Yeah, Boar or Sow dating can be very stressful for us slaves, like @Wiebke says not for the faint-hearted :D but it does sound like Joanne has worked her magic again and you will be coming home with two very happy piggies.. We might see you on Sunday as we may be going up to Hutches also... :tu:

I know haha, I am so pleased :)
Oh, I'll look out for you. We probably won't be there til around 1pm.

Got both girls home today after spending a week together. Joanne says she thinks they will get on like a house on fire. They travelled home in the same carrier with no issues.

They have been in the cage since 2pm. Heard a bit of teeth chattering twice but not as bad as before. They have also been doing a bit of rumble strutting but nothing aggressive so fingers crossed they'll settle down together ok :)

Sounds pretty normal, just small adjustment to their new environment.. xx

I took them both out on my lap and Maple kept trying to hide in the fleece. then Daisydecided to stretch out and use Maple as a pillow...

Trying to upload a video too

Got the girls out on the floor today and i just made some newspaper tents instead of using the hidey boxes. all seems fine but when Maple was in a newspaper tent and Daisy tried to join, Maple started teeth chattering at her. I take it this is just Maple saying 'this is my hidey!' ?
