Been having a real dilemma recently.
I keep my two boars, Lilypig (long story, youngest daughter wanted a girl pig) and Bolt, indoors in the conservatory. They are currently housed in an outdoor run, which I have put waterproof table felt under, and the usual fleece etc. hubby has built them an upper level hayloft to give them even more space. The run is approx 1.2m square so gives them a good area to live in.
However cleaning it out is a nightmare, involving lifting the very heavy cover off, this is needed as we have 2 kittens, and lifting out the heavy wooden hayloft to get to the fleece. as it is a floor level it is even harder as I suffer back probs.
I shall try and attach a pic, but not sure I know how!
I am considering buying a R6A cage online, which is 1.5m long but only 74 cm wide, so my pigs will have a longer length to run in, but less width. I have been and looked at one in my local jollyes, and can't decide whether they will lose too much of their existing space to be worth it, but I am finding I am putting off cleaning them out, as it is soo difficult to access their current setup. I have to be honest as well, I think the hayloft we have actually restricts their running space a bit anyway, but they love being up there. If I get the R6A cage I will adapt the ramp and cover the upper level to make it suitable.
Any thoughts on whether this is the right way to go. I really want my pigs to be happy, and this is the last big pig purchase dh will allow I suspect, as I have been through so many setups already!
Have considered c& c cages but decided not to go that route, due to cats, kids etc.
Okay, no idea how to add a pic from an iPad!
