Hi, Stuggling to hold back the tears as I write this, but I think my girl Pinkie is giving up the fight. I took her to the vets today to get the results of the urine sample that was sent off for analysis. She has a very serious bacterial infection in her bladder, the vet said one bacteria has been unheard of in rodents. She has had a stone removed from her urethra in November and her urine was full and still is of crystal deposits, which the vet says under the microscope look like shards of glass. Baytril hasn't worked, nor septrin we are now on one today called ornicure which is a powder that you give twice a day with food. The vet flushed her bladder today, but since then she has been lathargic and won't eat a thing. I have siringed her a small amount of food but she doesn't want to swallow it:( ,please send her lots of healing vibes, I am worried sick, as I think she has given up the will to live.8...8...8...

Sorry to hear this, can you syringe some fluids into her? It's important to keep her hydrated. Do you have any Critical Care and pro-biotic?

Will she eat anything - grass?

Fingers crossed here

Sophie

Healing vibes

Sending you and your piggy healing vibes!

My little piggy is having an op tomorrow and I'm dreading it!

Thinking of you both x

I really feel for you and am sending my love to you both.xx

I know what you are going through-do your best but most of all, cuddle her lots. Sending vibes to her..x

I'm so sorry to hear this. Healing vibes are coming your way and a big hug for you xx

Thanks for all your advice and concern everyone, she has been having lots of cuddles, she has eaten a couple of small pieces of cucumber about an hour ago, I will try her with some water through a syringe. She also started to wash herself after the cucumber, hope this is a good sign.:( Also started antibiotics this evening, I know it could be a day or two before they kick in. Vet said one of the bacteria was alpha haemolytic strepp.:0 I don't have any critical care but I have blended some nuggets down to put through a syringe.

Sending healing vibes to little Pinkie and hugs to you - this is an awful thing to be going through.

Cucumber is good, lots of water, and cleaning is always a good sign too I believe. When our Pepe had the runs for quite a while a couple of years back, he stopped cleaning at his worst and his coat looked dull and miserable, but started to clean again once he was on the mend.

So sorry to hear that you are having these problems - not much practical help I'm afraid, but keeping fingers crossed all the same for you and your girl. x

I'm sorry things are so difficult with Pinkie right now. Keeping fingers crossed here that she starts picking up soon. xx

Oh Sharon

I am really feeling for you and pinkie. All my love to her, everything crossed (makes it difficult to walk!). hope she is feeling better soon - hang in there.

Vicky

Just an update on Pinkie, she is taking fluids from me through a syringe, she is also eating small amounts of cucumber and some dandelion leaves. I hope her appetite gets a little better soon, cos she needs something a little more solid. She wasn't keen on the pellets I blended down last night, she didn't want to swallow them. Lots of cuddles today, hope the antibiotic kicks in soon, and gets rid of these awful bacteria. :(

Good to hear that she is eating some food now even if only small amounts.

Sending healing vibes too...come on Pinkie, you can do it!

Thinking of her and really hope she keeps improving! dont forget to give bio lapis as she is on baytril, an hour or so after the antibiotic and as often as you can throughout the day.

A bit better news tonight, I have kept up the syringing water, so she doesn't dehydrate, she had some cucumber and dandelion leaves earlier, she has wandered around a little and even ate a small amount from her dried food dish. To look at her today there is a great improvement to what she was like. Her eyes were glazed over and she wouldn't lift her head up at all last night. I am not saying that we are out of the woods yet, but am hoping things keep improving, Keep sending those vibes for her.:...

Sharon, I am sorry to hear that Pinkie isn't doing too well :( You are doing everything you can for her though. It is a good sign that she has made an improvement since yesterday. Keep up the good work with her and me, Connie and Eliza are sending lots of healing vibes and hugs your way x

Thanks Claire, I really don't know what I would do if I was to lose her, she has gone through so much lately, I hope she pulls through this. She is getting lots of snuggles with us. Signs are she is improving, but I dare not tempt fate. x>>

sorry to hear about Pinkie. I have been through the syringe feeding before and it's very draining. Good news that she has started to eat a little, hope she keeps on fighting ((((((hugs)))))

Fingers crossed Pinkie keeps eating and taking fluids. It sounds as if you're doing a great job :)

Well done with the syringe feeding - as Sue said, it's draining doing a lot of it, but absolutely worth it in the end :)
