We are just back from vets with Misty. This morning at about 4 I thought he didn't seem right but thought maybe he was just tired but when I got up he stil wasn't right he was puffy and there was alot of movement in his sides asif he was finding it hard to breathe. He wasn't talking either when hold him and normaly can't get him to shh so that wasn't right either. The vet said his teeth are fine, his heart is strong and healthy and his stomach is soft and healthy too so the only thing it could be was his lungs. In the left side there was a noise and his right slightly. She said we have got him there soon compared to what alot of people would that he's only got the 1 symptom not any discharge from nose ect. so hopefully we have caught it on time. He got given antibiotics injection and anti inflamitry. He has got more antibiotic to get and has to go back on Friday to see if he has developed more symptoms or is hopefully getting better.

Aww well done on realising he wasn't quite right, sounds like it has been caught early and he will be ok! Bless him! :smitten:

I think you have caught it in time, well done O0

Aw poor Misty, he has the same as our Huxley. Glad you got him to the vets early, fingers crossed for both of our little guys!
Hope Huxley feels better soon :)

I hope we have caught it on time but I stil feel bad asif it's my fault. My mum's friend has guinea pigs and one had a chest infection a few weeks ago and the next morning it was dead so I'm worried about that happening. He is trying to squeak every so often you can hear a faint one but his breathing is stil the same. He is stil eating some food. We just feel that a piggie goes into vet Monday/Tuesday and is dead by Friday :-\ Just need to hope he picks up a bit soon.

If he has trouble breathing then try putting some vicks in a bowl of hot water near his cage (like a steam therapy) or you can put it on a radioator in the room if he is indoors will help ease his chest a bit. Good luck with him

Will try that with the vicks thanks. He doesn't seem any worse this morning. Nothing coming out of his nose and he has been up on the worktop eating. He is back in his cage in his igloo.

I know this sounds mad bu when Ralfie had a URI we were told to put him in the carrier in the bathroom and put the shower on, so he was breathing the humidity, kind of like steam therapy as Vikki said. also, try patting his side (the left in this case) until he coughs, it helps dislodge the mucus O0 hope he feels better soon x

I've just sat in bathroom with shower on for 10 mins with him. He ran up and bit my shoulder ::) We were in Glasgow earlier so went out and left some vicks aswell. How hard should I pat his side don't want to be too rough or too gentle?

Just pat with two fingers, not too hard but not too gentle either! you'll get the hang of it as you do it lol! its like winding a baby ;D x

Been sitting doing that to him but he won't cough. Afters doing it he doesn't seem to be breathing as fast not sure if that's good thing. When you put his ear down to his nose he sounds asif he is stuffed up. Would it be safe to put vicks on his nose or is that too strong? He stil doesn't seem any worse just the same. Mum said if he was going to get worse she would have thought it would have happened last night. Won't beable to tell really until the vet listens to him again.

We are just getting ready to go to vets with him but we would say he is a bit better. Doesn't sound as snuffly and is looking for food rather than us giving him it. I'll post what the vet says when we get back

There is now a noise asif whatever is there has loosened. She thinks it's because of the patting and steam. So thanks for suggesting it :) He has to go back on Monday but if we think he's picked up to leave it until Wednesday to see if antibitotics have worked or needs put on other ones. He was begining to talk in the waiting room so hopefully his voice is coming back.

Aw bless him :smitten: the patting might work now its dislodged a bit :) hope he's feeling all better soon x
