getting another boar for Boo.

Hellooo, I have 2 sows, trixie and maisy who are 4-5 months old, maisy gave birth to a boy, Boo. Boo is 3 weeks old and i am wondering if he would be ok to pair with an older boar, 4 months old? I was just wondering wether any of you have older with younger and what you would advise me. I am thinking about getting Boo a friend as i heard it is best to get another soon as Boo might get terratorial if i try to add another boar in the future? What do you think?

If you are worried about fighting when he gets older, can't you neuter him when he's old enough and he can live with Maisy and Trixie? Just an idea. Good luck with whatever you do O0

I do like to have 'manly' boys as they tend to be 'kinder' and more friendly so i would like to keep two boars, is it too young to mix with an older boar, 4 months?

I'm absolutely no expert but I would think 3 weeks is still too young. I got a 6 week old for my 3 month old boar and my 6 week old had a lot of changes to get used to being so young, new home, new cage, new cage mate, new owner and travelling (some of which won't apply to you) so much so that he is still very jittery and suffered badly with mites basically because he was so anxious and couldn't cope with them on his body - they won the battle and burried themselves in his skin. He's only just pulling round now

Oh, he will be gour months old on tuesday and i wasnt going to put them in a cage together yet, just for floor time, and with Boo being on his own and that he hasnt anyone to play with, in the run hes on his own, it was only going to be friends and then when they got to no each other really well he was going to have the new boar as a cage mate. is it ok to do that?

This is a much easier solution and something I have done. Rimmer was just six weeks old when I got him and like Boo was an only piggie born. So he was huge and by 4months old was able to be neutered due to the size of him. Now at nearly 6months old he is bigger than my year old sows. Please consider neutering Boo much easier to put him back in with your two sows. I can live alone while he waits or put a divider in so he can see the other two.

I think that neutering him is a good idea, that way he can be with 'his girls' and there will be no problems as far as fighting goes. Also, they are not more 'manly' if they are intact. The only thing that neutering changes is their ability to father babies.

Yep agree with you Kimmie :)

Yep I agree... Just neauter him :) then you dont have to have 2 cages... you can just have one and Boo will be more happy with a bunch of lady friends :)
