So i have a 2 x 4 and a loft 1 x 2... was thinking of just getting rid of the loft but not sure.. they dont really use that area- they run up there when i do the clean in a morning but go out in their run at night time.. just put all new cage liner in and the loft really gets in the way!

Suggestions please - should i do it? 20180528_101329.webp20180528_102202.webp

ive a loft and i use it as a hay area, use bedding and hay,2x2 and they all use it alot.!i use a long handle broom to clean under the loft ! it really is a decision of if you feel you and your piggies would miss the loft !

If they aren't using it then personally I would get rid, but that is just personal preference due to the awkwardness of cleaning under them sometimes.

I had a ramp for very short period of time. Personally I find cleaning under them a nightmare.

I never used the loft I bought as I discovered that there wasn’t space for it .
The cage fits under a table.
When I had a large 2 tier cage they rarely went upstairs and I had a shallow ramp for them.
Mine just get the opportunity to play out as often as possible.
I’m hoping that in future I will be be able to use the loft to extend the cage.

The ramp is exactly the same as the ones that are attached to all my cages in my home and are set up similar. All the guinea pigs have no problem at all using them however I have 3 in one cage that is quite a bit longer so the loft serves a purpose when they need to go to private places. I also use the hay on top with fleece hideways and it serves to cover the kitchen area on one side and an area for one or two to go under when they want to hide but want their own corner.

That being said, lofts are not necessary and they don't add to the required square footage of a cage so if you don't want to keep it there, it won't seem much of a difference since they aren't using it. You can make these cages or buy larger cages in so many different designs and ways and a whole lot of guinea piggies are going to be very happy just for the care they are getting. This is really what you like and what may be what they respond to.

Your cage is very nice; either way there are some happy babies there.

I have just got my c&c cage but am yet to make liners! Wondering if I can buy ready made? I love your set up, maybe they use loft just when your not there and also they might like the hidey area underneath?

I think i will keep it ! I struggled today to put all the new tablecloth liner thing underneath the loft so maybe was just having a momentary meltdown over it! I dont need to do that regularly.... as its wipeable and covered in puppy pads and fleece.. and the pigs do go up there when i do breakfast.. i think they would miss it.. x

It was awkward today... makes it harder as other half screwed the cage to a wooden board for safety and there is no room to move it! X

You can buy ready made ones from quite a few places.. i make mine, they are quite easy if you can sew?

Mine go out every night in their indoor pen/run.. then do zoomies when they go to 'bed'...

They do sleep in the bit underneath the loft.. x

Bracken and Rusty no longer use their loft (they will now I've put it in print!). I was going to take it out as it would be easier to clean under but then I realised they like to sleep under it, it makes a spacious hidey. At the moment I'm like you undecided about keeping it.
