Hi

Over the last week, Margaret's fur has thinned out on her back, just behind her head. The skin is pink, no scabs, no clumps of fur are falling out and she isn't scratching more than usual.

Could this be hormonal?

All the other pigs are fine.

Normally hormonal hair loss is symetrical on both sides of the abdomen. Behind the head isnt usually where this occurs. Your best bet is to take her to the vet to rule out any skin issues or parasites, or local irritation in the affected area first x

Please have her seen by a vet. This is not a typical area for hair loss, so it needs an examination by a good vet to determine what is the matter.

Hi everyone. Been away for a couple of weeks but thought I would let you know what happened to Marge.

I took her to the vets who said to treat it for mites in the first instance. Two weeks later, her fur is growing back so that seems to have been the problem. She was treated again on Monday and has another treatment in 2 weeks time - hopefully, her fur will be back to its gloriousness shortly!
