Trying to get an appointment to get Quinn a bladder x-ray. Apparently he has to be dropped off between 8am and 9am and I would pick him up later on.

He doesn't like being alone and without Kasper. I don't like the idea of him being there alone either. I won't be able to pick him up until after 5pm as my friend will be taking me to the vet. It seems like a long time for him to be alone so I hope it is worth it.

He was at the vet on Wednesday to get more antibiotics and more painkillers. He has been squealing when pooping again. The painkillers and antibiotics have helped a bit again but obviously more needs done as this has been recurring for two months.

:(

Hi, you maye a to look at my recent thread just under here - my boy is currently at the vets having had bladder surgery yesterday as an emergency.

Just to reassure you, I have 2 boys - I left Rodney overnight in the week for his X-ray (due to distance this was easier) and obv he is there this weekend, and I have been assured both times he is eating & the nurses are making a fuss of him. Whilst I don't like my fellas being apart, it really will be for the best in the long run and when he is fixed they can be together again. When you get him home if he has surgery you can put him in a cage close by so they can chat to each other. Being apart for a short time will be ok. He may have other pigs in the vets he can chat too also!

It's for the best, he would be fine and back with his buddy in no time x

Did your vet specifically request that Quinn come on his own and will there be an op on the same day if a bladder stone is confirmed?
I generally take mine with a companion piggy for the day; they are much less stressed out - even for an op. But the vets I am using is fine with that.

Fingers firmly crossed!

I normally take Kasper with Quinn so I'll ask them if they can both be there for the day :)

I haven't been told if the operation will be the same day. I have only been able to get through to the receptionist so far...I will also ask about it being the same day when she calls back :) thanks Wiebke x

Hi Annie,

Let us know when you get an appointment, we can pick you and your boys up after the X-ray so that they don't have to be at the vets all day.. x Is it Inglis in Dunfermline...?

Lisa & Ali.. x

I have contacted the vet and they said to bring Kasper along and to bring their favourite hay and whatever makes them more comfortable. I don't feel so bad about it now as at least they can complain together lol
It will be much less stressful being together. Aww they are really close.

The boys are back home.
Nothing was found in Quinn's bladder. No stones or sludge.
The vet commented that his bladder is small but I am unsure if that is normal or a problem?
I asked about Cystese but they say it isn't licensed and they want to talk to the main exotics vet first.

So confusing!

You could try glucosamine or barley water in the mean time to try see if that helps? Do they still think he has a UTI? X

We just sprinkled the contents of the Cystease Capsules in water and syringed it up. Maybe an ultrasound of the Bladder may show some thickening on the lining - Putt had this and we managed it with a low dose of metacam each day. Maybe something to talk to your vet about. Love to the Boys x

EDIT Has the vet tried Septrin yet? If they are thinking UTI

I grind up/thoroughly crush my glucosamine tablets (boots vegetarain ones) with the flat side of a big knife, then I thoroughly mix with 4mls water and give 1ml per day after.

Edit: also agree it would be good to try get rid of the potential infection with all antibiotics possible first though if you haven't tried that already!

We had an ultrasound yesterday plus the xray and it only showed that his bladder is small. No evidence of sludge.
We have been taking Septrin since last Wednesday. The vets that I am using just now go for Septrin straight away.
Quinn hasn't squealed at all today so I am hoping that it is getting better.
I will be ordering glucosamine tomorrow because at least if it doesn't work I can use it on myself for my joint issues lol!

Thanks for the advice everyone! x

@Tbag they are still thinking UTI

@helen105281 I am going to try out glucosamine first. How do you make tablets pig friendly?

Tbag has answered for me. We do the same type of thing but dissolve the tablets in water. We have more than one pig on it though so the OH has a system on mixing it which I don't understand. I can find out if you need me to though.

Thanks Helen :)

I'll try Tbags way to see how it goes. Will be ordering tomorrow so it should be here at the end of the week :)
