sampling different herbs.

I've always known that if you want a guinea pig to comply then bribe with parsley, but reading on here about the different herbs you guys have been feeding I decided to buy a selection and see what the crew thought.

Results so far:

  • flat parsley is not as well received as curly parsley
  • corriander appears, if possible, to be more popular than parsley
  • dill is suprising popular. I always thought it would be too strong a taste but it went down well yesterday
  • they are liking some basil leaves mixed in with their spinach or greens
  • Mint is universally not liked. Funniest thing I have seen is Mo grab a mint leaf, start chewing it then projectile spit it out across the corral and do that 'nasty taste in the mouth' thing little kids do, sticking out her tongue like she wanted to wipe the taste off!

Still to sample on the menu this week:
tarragon
sage
lemon tyme

Tesco thinks I've taken up exotic cookery with all these herbs I'm buying:-)

It's crazy isn't it. I'd never bought herbs before I got guinea pigs.
Parsley and coriander are universally liked (although shop bought parsley is considered inferior to home grown rolleyes), Delilah and Minx love basil but Flumpet eats it as if she thinks she ought to like it but isn't sure, dill caused all three to hide in the house and refuse to come out until it was taken away, and mint was pee'd on by Flumpet with the disgust she thought it thoroughly deserved. :(|)

My sister-in-law asked me to look after my 2 year old twin nephews for an hour this morning :{- she sweetened the pot with a huge bag of flat leaf parsley from their garden- so much in fact, that I gave half to my friend for their pigs. We have happy munching tonight.

My pigs have only tried parsley, mint and basil so far, which I'm growing for them. They love them all! but they took some getting used to, especially mint. At first they'd just nibble mint and leave it, but they soon got to like it and will now eat lots :) which is handy because it grows so well.

I just give them a few leaves a day of herbs as a treat, mixed with some dandelion leaves, yum!

My three love corriander, parsley (both curly and flat) and dill but won't touch mint or basil. Tried a few times but it gets ignored or spat out so I've given up! :))
