Adult Guinea Pig
It has taken me a few days to write about Thorn because I just did not want it to be true. But sadly despite lots of effort by my vet and our family, it was his time to leave us. And we miss him so much. I have lost other boars but this is the first one that I have lost after living with us from a baby (6 weeks). He was always a petite boar and very quiet and calm - a special character.
Thorn was born at Milhaven Guinea Pig Rescue in 2011 and Jo was going to rehome him with his little brother Tam. But then two families came along who needed to boar date and we were lucky enough to met Thorn. Sometimes when boar dating you are thinking 'Really?' as your boar chooses a friend that you might not have picked but in this case our piggie loved him at first sight and and so did we. So Thorn came home to live with us and live with Cheeky (who lives up to his name).

Thorn is the beige coloured one with a little crown.

I hope that Thorn had a good life with us - he lived in the piggie room (our utility) so was always warm and enjoyed some great times on the lawn in the summers. He was mad about his greens - lettuce, spring cabbage, herbs - anything as long as it was green. He had to tolerate living with Cheeky which was not always easy - Cheeky is a bit of a nightmare and hyperactive. But Thorn was able to manage his behaviour (!) and even though Thorn was the submissive one, he always had the fleecy tunnel to himself.
He had a lovely relationship with my daughter who is very quiet with the piggies and he would site beautifully on her knee in his fleecy sack. He also loved being in the playpen in a pile of hay.

He was very healthy thoughout his life until he became ill and started losing weight last autumn. I don't want to think about all of that today but even when poorly, we had some lovely times with him syringe feeding and taking meds - he was such as good boy. You can see his front feet resting on my finger which is how he liked to sit.

Sleep peacefully little Thorn - we wanted to have more time with you but it was not to be. Cheeky is missing you but he will be fine - if slightly bonkers. X
