Thorn - Weight Loss And Cloudy Wee Mystery

I started making Thorn his probiotic on cucumber on autopilot this morning and then stopped. Miserable without him to peep out at me from his usual tunnel.
I've been there, when I have found myself making syringe food for a piggy who I had lost the previous day So heartbreaking, but he was a very loved little guy and no-one could've tried harder to save him. Sending hugs x

:( I'm so sorry, that's such awful and sad news. I had similar with Cash who died right at the end of his op - it's a very cruel thing.
You just have to know and hold onto the fact that you did everything for him that you could.
Big hugs, I hope the pain soon becomes easier to bare.

RIP Thorn x

I am ever so sorry for your loss! You couldn't have done more for Thorn!

I always find the bit where you automatically chop up veg or prepare hand feed or get the meds ready the hardest bit after the passing of a beloved piggy; you have to consciously retrain yourself. The more you have been caring for the piggy in the last weeks or days, the worse. It feels like having to chuck them out of being a firm part of your daily life... :(

Oh Laura I am so sorry to hear about Thorn. You did all you could but I know that doesn't really help you feel any better just now. Just remember Thorn is now pain free.
RIP little Thorn.

I have just read your postings and am so sorry for your loss.

My Teddy is at the specialist vets at Auray in France today because he has been losing weight for some time and my own vets couldn't help. He weighed 660g this morning and he is having some bloods taken and an x-ray to get to the bottom of his problems. He used to weigh over 1kg. The vet was concerned about his liver. He has suggested Tramadol to go along with the Meloxidyl he is taking for arthritis pain that came on after he hurt his leg when his new cage mates chased him and he got his leg tangled in the long hay. He is having his heart checked on x-ray to see if the necrosis on his ears has been caused by any problem. He is six years old and I can't imagine being without him.

Really sorry to hear this about your piggie - that is considerable weight loss. Glad you have access to a specialist vet and hope the tests give you some answers. Sadly with Thorn we never really got to the full story of what was going on internally.
Are you syringe feeding him and is that going OK? Let us know how you get on.

Thank you Laura for your response. We have just got back from Auray. Teddy seems to have a huge infection somewhere the vet thinks it is in his lungs as the x-rays showed light coloured lungs instead of darker. His liver function and kidney function is ok but he is very anaemic. The vet believes this is due to Teddy's body using a lot of energy to fight off the infection. He has prescribed Tramadol to help, with the Meloxidyl, his arthritis. His necrotic ears the vets says is also due to being so anaemic. Teddy has to have a 3 week course of antibiotics to deal with the infection. I am going to give him Feraglobin and try Cosequin to help his arthritis. As with all things in France it feels, we couldn't get the medicines from Auray but had to go to our own vet and have him write up a prescription. The Tramadol we have to get from the chemist, which we will collect tomorrow as they didn't have any. He has to have 0.02ml once or twice a day to start with (4mg/kg) and can increase up to 10mg/kg. Hopefully, if this is the problem then he should start to gain weight. He had his thryoid function tested and for diabetes but they were normal. He is so precious and has put up with such a lot since he was castrated in December 2013.
