My guinea pig Kyper is an American about 1 year old and while he was eating I noticed their was something on his next. It blended in a little with his tan fur and I thought it was maybe a thorney piece of hay that just got stuck to his fur. I gently pulled on it but he welped and I quickly let go. It seems it may be part of his skin. I also noticed that he was kinda hanging his mouth open since it is right under his chin. He is eating and drinking fine.
Any suggestions on what it may be? He has not been outside anytime recently and nothing new has been added to his cage besides a little hammock.
Thanks!

Hi I have experienced somthing like this in the past! If l remember correctly it was a scin type tumer, my vet told me it could be removed but a general anesthetic would be needed and in his opinion it would be wise to leave well enough alone, unless it started to show signs of infection

Just remembered, my vet tied the growth at the base with a peice of surgical thread and in a couple of weeks it dropped off

Hi and welcome

Could you please post a picture? It could be a skin scab from a little wound (like a scratch or bite wound), but all we can do from your description is guess wildly.
How To Post Photos

I've merged your threads so they are both in one p,ace to help with replies. I agree that a photo would be a good idea.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies! I checked it again this morning and it was actually gone. Their was some fur missing and it was just a pink spot on his neck but he seems to be fine now and I'm sure the fur will grow back soon. I'll keep an eye on him of course:D thanks again!
