Sorry guys. All I seem to do is pop up occasionally for sympathy.

I rushed my little Saffy into the vets this morning after waking up to find her in respiratory distress and white (Open mouth gasping). I didn't actually think she'd make it in to work but seemed so bright even in the state she was.

After giving her lots of oxygen and then popping the ultrasound on her chest we've found she's in heart failure and had a lot of fluid on the lungs. We hit her hard with frusemide injections and she's picked up a little now. Her breathing is better, and her colour has returned to pink, thank god. She's even started eating a little, despite all the air she's swallowed for gasping causing her stomach to bloat. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that she can stabilise and we can get her onto some medication to keep her on top of this. In the long run I realise that our time together is coming towards the end but I'm hoping she can be comfortable for a few months so she can be spoiled. In the end it all comes down to her quality of life, but for now, she seems to be still fighting so I'm happy to fight with her.

Here she is (when she was looking well a couple of months ago)

Poor angel, I really hope she responds well to the heart meds so you have some extra time with her.

So sorry to hear this, she is a beautiful girl, hope you get a few more months with her. It's never easy to say goodbye but you'll know when the time is right.

Oh, poor Saffy . Here's hoping she stabilises and has a good quality of life .

ooh the poor little poppet, hopefully she's got a fighting chance after getting her sorted so quickly this morning, she's lucky to have you as her slave.
healing vibes being sent by the shed-load to such an attractive girly, all fingers & paws tightly crossed that the meds kick in quickly for a speedy recovery too,

love from the girls & I. xx

Hope you get some more precious time together x

So sorry to hear she's so poorly. I hope you can make her comfortable again.

Huge hugs, sending you and Saffy lots of love x x x

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about little Saffy :(
Hugs and little kisses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Another friend of mine just lost one of her babies to heart problems. You're obviously doing all you can.

Poor Saffy... sending lots of good vibes your way! She is beautiful, by the way! I'm pulling for her!

Oh poor Saffy, I am sorry :( I know that you will keep her comfortable and I hope she improves. Sending big vibes xx

It sounds like she's in the best hands. How old is she?

Well it's both good and bad news here, it's been a few very stressful days.

On a good note. Saffy is doing fabulously. The furosemide saved her life. We rescanned her chest on Monday and almost all of the fluid on her lungs was gone. She's now on oral medications and although her breathing isn't up to scratch quite she's so much better. Tomorrow we will be changing her medication to a longer acting duretic and some heart medication. Her personality is back 10 fold. She's zooming around her kennel, even though I keep telling her to rest her poorly heart. Unfortunately she seems to have developed some diarrhoea. This isn't unexpected as she's been having some on and off gut issues, the only annoying thing is she's getting it all over her pretty white fur, but she doesn't care. And to be honest, she's alive and bright and we can deal with this over the next week or so.

Here she is. The day after nearly dying. Hardly sitting still on the table in the ward.

The sad news is we had to say goodbye to another of our piggie family yesterday.

Ozzie was the man of the herd. At only 4y11m I didn't quite expect him to get so unwell so quickly. He developed some respiratory signs on Saturday, much the same as Saffy. She obviously took much of my attention on Sunday but on Monday I noticed Ozzie was still showing problems with his breathing and was not interested in his dinner. I examined him and found a mass within his abdomen too. So Tuesday I took him into work. It was not good news. He not only had a tumour on his kidney he also had a large amount of fluid in the sac around his heart (pericardial effusion). This meant that his lungs and heart were struggling and sadly pointed towards potential cancer of his heart. His X-rays showed his lungs were squashed and very consolidated. Even if we had drained the fluid from his heart sadly there was also heart failure and cancers to deal with. I did not want to let him suffer anymore and had him put to sleep. So very sudden but I am so glad he is no longer suffering.

RIP little guy. Your girls are going to miss you!

So sorry to hear about Ozzie, always a difficult decision to make but it was the kindest one for him. Glad to hear Saffy is doing well.
