I feed Patchy & Coco a handful of Oxbow Botanical hay (I call it their "tea bag" hay as it smells like a herbal tea bag) once a week for their "treat friday". It has chamomile, lavender, clover and something else in it I cant remember and only 5% the rest is timothy hay but the piggies have just run out and the shop I get the Oxbow hays from has a timothy hay with just chamomile in it but i'm not sure how healthy these herbally type hays are for the piggies. What are other members thoughts on these hays. The piggies thoughts are that botanical hay is super yum but they don't get the final decision until they start paying for it lol.

I use them once or twice a week as a treat. To be honest I think they pick out the hay and leave all the expensive herby bits. I bought a bag of guinea pig treat hay the other day with pea flakes and corn flakes and as I tipped it into the compost bin I noticed all the extras we burried under the waste hay. I only bought it to make up an online order to get the free postage so it was effectively free, was glad I'd not paid £3.99 for it!

I think I would prefer to give out the herby hays or veg as a treat instead of some of those store bought sticky looking treats the pet shops sell, I get tooth decay just looking at them. That being said I do buy those oxbow simple reward treats with peppermint to feed a couple once a week after their weigh (weighing is somehow very traumatic for them lol) but they have cane molasses in and i'm not 100% comfortable feeding them but the piggies love them but they would probably rather a couple of leaves of mint instead which I might look at switching to after this bag is eaten.

I like giving herby things as well as other things. Naturally they'd eat a whole lot of other plants not just grass. Some natural meadow hays do contain a nice mix of other plants (especially those from historic upland meadows), but usually not big brand ones.
