Matthew and luke have been together for one year, luke is 14 months,i heard a crashing sound coming from the guinea pig room.To find Matthew and Luke flying around locked up together in a furball fight ....now luke has a wound to his nose.Piggy politics ive seen it all.now both luke are seperated.Ive put grids down the centre of matthews 6 x 2 c &c cage.placed Dominique on oneside and Matthew on the other.in the hope i can bond them after six weeks wait of neutering op ! Luke is in the cat carrier over night .so i can sort some cage option for 6 weeks until he is safe to go with a female.Harry has gone back with his cage mate, though his mate is guarding the water bottle ! Boys will be boys !

Oh no! I am so sorry your boys have fallen out @eileen . It's awful when they have a rolling ball fight. I hope no one is badly injured. Red and Brillo gave each other some very nasty puncture wounds a few months ago, don't think I'll ever trust boars quite the same again! I hope you are okay too.

Yes I'm fine thanks I've seen it with a lot of my boar pairs in the 7years of keeping piggies.I seem to get dominant boars.I've seen a few fights, with boars it seems very decisive in about 10 minutes of bonding commencing, circling, clacking teeth and then wham.I love boars,I've had a trio and pairs that have been fine.just find neutered boar.....with sows the best bonds in my experience.Luke is going to have to go into a hutch for 6 weeks to then get a sow.

Boars! Why can’t they just behave themselves? Sorry you’ve had such a time of it Eileen x

I am sorry that you are having such a difficult time. The longer days in spring seem to wake up boar instincts that go back to their wild ancestor species which had a breeding season between Spring and Autumn.

To add to bloomin boars,i found poor Harry cowering in the corner of the hutch,i noticed Harry has deep puncture/bite wounds on his rump and back.ive cleaned the wound, now he is seperated from Thomas.now 4 boars alone.3 now waiting six weeks post neuter.I'm going to have to rescue 2 sows if there are any after lockdown.i will take Harry to the vets if i see any signs of infection or abscess .

I am so sorry that it has all gone haywire for you.

I am sorry you are going through this. I've got another pair on close watch tonight, there's something in the air!

i think for me it is much easier for boars to live with sows.which will happen once all 3 boars are 6 weeks post neuter.Thomas has been neutered 2 years ago,so I'm going to adopt some sows when lockdown has eased.i do not want to take sows out of already long bonded herds.Harry does look traumatised from his fight. I could try Luke and Harry together once their wounds heal, but I'm sceptical,as both are on the dominant side.i hope your boars remain together.xx

Now Harry has lost his front teeth ! it must have been from his fight with Thomas.i will syringe feed now and keep monitoring his weight !

Poor Harry and poor you, they are a complex set of little furry individuals aren’t they. I’m sure Harry’s teeth will grown back fine very soon x
