Tewdric
Teenage Guinea Pig
Last Sunday I picked up two 6 week old girls from the Blue Cross.
After leaving them for a couple of days to settle, with Friday off and the weather being absolutely gorgeous I put them out into a run next to my neutered boar and his wife pig. There was a lot of positive interest between both sets of pigs through the wire, so I took the plunge and did the intros a little earlier than I was planning.
All seems to have settled very quickly so far. Brunel (my boar) seems very happy to have new girls in his group. He's been sharing beds and bowls with both babies - although there are times when he gets a little fed up of their exuberance and sends them packing so he can get some peace.
My Lilith, who is the most confident pig I've ever known - seemed rather surprised and wary of the youngsters at first. I think she's getting the hang of it now. There's been piggy training with the babies following her and she following them, and I have caught her curled up asleep with them.
The babies are mad! Soooo fast - zooming everywhere. Very nervy round humans still, but we'll win them round eventually. I swear they grow every time I look at them!
Here are some pics from this afternoon.
Lilith and the two girls.
.
Brunel emerging from the carrier I'm using to train the babies - the big pigs already have it down to a fine art; ( it means my hubby can get them into and out of the run and hutch without having to handle them due to his allergies).
My small black girl.
Very abby hairstyle - and the smallest of the pair.
Mr Brunel having a bit of a lie down.
