Our lovely Tigs has juvenile cataracts. We took him to the vets as one of his eyes has gone lighter in colour - he still has sight in it, but this will gradually fade. Also the vet saw signs of it starting in the other eye, he said it will creep up on him over the next couple of years. Poor Tiger! :( We hope he will be OK, at the moment he can still see fine and was chortling about the conservatory chasing Jeremy. The vet said there is an op that dogs can have, that they could do for piggies - its a laser machine and costs £800. The risk is the anaesthetic. My poor little mop.

Sorry to hear about Tiger. A couple of my regular visitors (buns and piggies) have this problem and they all manage very well. We just make sure that we always put their food bowls, water bottles, tunnels etc. in the same place each day.:)

Awww Katie, poor Tiger!
Give him a piggy kiss from me....sure he will be fine and get used to it, sounds a risky and very expensive op :0(

Sorry to hear about poor tiger and his cataracts. However, I'm also aware that they are still able to live fulfilling lives.

Thats great to hear katie, not for jeremy hehe but I'm glad he's not letting it bother him. Doing things like making sure his things are in the same place is a great help for blind pets, and also talking to them before you approach them.

Oh Katie I'm so sorry to hear this. You know Tiger is one of my favs! I absolutely adore him! (((hugs))) to you, I can't believe the hard time you are having lately with the boys. Hope you are ok. x

tiger

Bless him. He is like Milo he has that crown look at the front. With it being a gradual thing he will probably get used to it as horrible as it sounds. x

Well with him being the boss pig and quite a stroppy little fellow I am hoping he will adapt OK. Just feel dead sorry for him. And he's getting a bath this weekend, poor Tiger!

he is a little sweetheart and looks so cuddly and adorable ! you just want to pick him up and cuddle him! hugs and kisses darling tiger XXXXX
Ha ha Mary, he's not as sweet as he looks! he'll allow you to cuddle him for about 5 mins before he starts biting my finger, and he bit me on the chest at the vets! He is cute though.

Ah tell me about it. I have to bath my whole herd, rabbits included because of nasty lice. Just waiting for gorgeous guineas to arrive. :( Pigs are funny little things we think they are delicate but they are made of strong stuff.

Poor Tiger, but hopefully it won't alter his life too much. Good thing he's got you ;)
By the way, he is GORGEOUS!

Oh dear poor little guy.a few of my older pigs had chataracts and they still seemed happy and outgoing.I hope they dont advance too quickly

I'm sorry to hear that your piggie has got cataracts. I've heard that most piggies adapt very well as their sight is not that great anyway.
