So.. quite some weeks back I spotted a beautiful guinea pig on a rescue site. It was love at first sight when I saw his picture but I decided to wait and see what happened.. did I "really" need more Guinies?

Well... almost 2 months later and he has still not been adopted so I decided to inquire about him. I have a phone meeting with one of the rescue workers tomorrow probably to ask me some more questions, make sure I am a responsible owner, know what I am doing etc..

I wish they would let me put him on hold but sadly that has to wait until I have had a house inspection arranged and passed. In the meantime I have spent this whole week "hoping" no one else gets him before I can advance to the next stage of the adoption process.

Tightly crossing all my fingers that they will at least "reserve" him after our call tomorrow as I am deeply deeply serious about taking him and I can't help but think maybe he has been waiting for me these last few weeks! ( He never had even one inquiry before mine, which is odd as he is young and handsome).

Please keep us in your thoughts tomorrow. Will not put any pictures up until it's "guaranteed" that he will be mine as I don't want to tempt bad luck.

Oh keeping everything crossed for you. I would assume once they have completed the checks they should allow you to have him put on hold for you. Just keep asking lol xx

Keeping all fingers and paws crossed for you here!

Everything crossed here too.
I imagine they would put a reserve on him after the phone check when they realise you are serious?

keeping everything crossed here for you.Hope you end up with him

Thanks everyone! I am counting down the hours until the conversation... sadly its not until evening.
In the meantime I find I am obsessively checking the rescue site every few hours checking that he has not been marked as "on hold" for anyone :yikes:

I am sure if you already have the phone call 'booked' then they won't allow anyone else to put a reserve on her, at least until after they have spoken to you.
Counting down the minutes with you

In the meantime our lone female (Who was going to "herd" with the others originally) has no idea that there is a possible handsome prince in her future.

Crossing my fingers for you, although I'm sure they'll be happy to let you adopt him once they talk with you!

I'd just like to add that he is already neutered (in case anyone was worried about me placing him with a lady). And that if we are successful in adopting him then we will have a week or so longer to go in his "wait" period as they do not allow boys to go to a new home until they are "post op safe".

Ok so now I have to wait for a call for them to schedule a home check. The little fella is now apparently reserved, but there is no change to the website regarding his status so I'm not going to uncross my fingers just yet.

They didn't seem so keen on the idea that I have kids but even the youngest is super gentle with animals and they are NEVER left unsupervised. Can't see any reason to fail the home check as I am not "new" to pets and have my head pretty well screwed on when it comes to looking after them :)

So.. we are up for a home inspection this afternoon. Eek, a little bit nervous but it should go fine. Hoping it will be quick as I have some errands to run after which involve a long drive.

Just saw your thread, good luck for tonight :) post a picture of your piggy when you get him :)

We passed, they'd never seen a C&C cage before or absorbent fleece liners so there was many questions about the cage and some photos made (I think the home checker might be converted haha!).

She was a really lovely lady who has her own collection of guineas. We get to bring the little guy home next weekend once he has been cleared for "castration post-op wait time". They want to be sure he has "no shots left" in him so there are no accidental babies when I put him with my little lady.

The poor rescue is bursting at the seems at the moment as they have had a lot of people who've purchased young females from pet stores that have then had babies over the summer holidays. I like that rescues are far more responsible that stores.
No male leaves the rescue without being castrated and quarantined until "safe".
No females leave the rescue until they have passed a long "pregnancy watch" quarantine.
Any males who were castrated before being given up, or females who were homed with no males still get a health quarantine period before re-homing.

Seriously why can't pet stores be more like this, then we'd not have such an abundance in the rescue centers!

Congrats! Can't wait to see pictures of your new boy :)
