Eriathwen
Senior Guinea Pig
Today our beautiful old lady Tilly passed away, she came to us about 5 years ago..
A retired breeding sow who could no longer be bred due to the development of a head tilt, blindness and neurological issues. She came with her baby Hazel, a runt that no one had wanted, they absolutely adored eachother which was a small miracle because Tilly made it her ongoing mission to make bonding an absolute nightmare, and is the sole reason I have 3 herds, not 2
After spending a couple of years with just her daughter, she accepted neutered male Finley into the family shortly after we moved into this house, who she also secretly quite liked but would never show it. The feeling was mutual as, after developing inoperable ovarian cysts due to her medical fragility and advanced age, he would allow her to rumble, chase and mount him, much to his confusion!
After losing her beloved daughter Hazel in an unfortunate accident, Tilly again showed me some grace by accepting Lily into the group, my attempt to spread Finleys attention to not solely focus on our little pensioner as I was worried the stress may aggravate her E.cuniculi. They lived as a very happy trio until Finley also passed. Tilly get a whole new lease on life when, after his castration, she also welcomed baby Banjo.. she knew straight away this scared little baby boy needed mothering and in spite of there being 8 years between their ages, they became inseperable.
Unfortunately after being diagnosed with pretty severe arthritis and hip displaysia, Tillys neurological issues also took a turn for the worse and she developed significant mobility issues, losing the use of her legs, off and on. She never let this get her down however and continued to enjoy her life, never losing that strong spark of character she has always had, making it very clear what she did and didn't want
It's been an honour being your person Tilly, my beautiful old lady, my piggy and my friend. You and your characteristic Tilly "flop" into my arms whenever I held you will be so terribly missed. Thankyou for the journey.
