I've just got the piggies delivery of 2016 Timothy Hay from www.timothyhay.co.uk, it's great.
As with all good Timothy Hay, it is stalky and very green. It's so much better than last years crop and is grown in the UK.
They are trying a new product this year, Oat Hay. You can see it on top of the Timothy Hay. It's a sample that I asked for when ordering the Timothy Hay.
The GPM pigs get normal baled hay in their lofts and Timothy in their hay Twisties.

Hay is giving me headaches! There are so many different kinds that it makes my head spin.

My girlies are on Timothy hay from P&H but I also give them the Burgess dandilion and something. I don't like the P@H stuff but I don't know what to change it to.

Then someone said about Meadow hay for bedding.

Any ideas where I can get some good quality hay from? And what type please?

I highly recommend Nature's Own, their meadow hay is good but their sweet green hay is Lola and Poppy's favourite along with their 5 a day hay! Here is the linkhttp://www.naturesownpets.co.uk/hay.html

Ooh I might try that hay- looks a really good price too. Do you know if it's dust extracted?
Mine get Pillow Wad meadow hay. £4.99 for just under 4kg and dust extracted. Just bought 4 more bags but it'll be gone in a few wheeks!

Hi, I bought from here a few months ago but it was their 2015 Timothy hay. My piggies didn't really like it and ate the meadow hay I got from my local equestrian shop before eating this. Is the 2016 much different? Stalky wise would you say it's more stalky or less? My piggies don't seem to like stalky stuff that much. Even with the oxbow hay they pull all the stalky bits out and leave them :( X

I believe it very much depends on your piggies preference, ive a lively boar called carlton and he adores timothy hay,so he always has some in a rack ,but some of my other pigs avoid timothy hay,but the biggest hit is oxbow orchard grass as a treat,:own:

I don't know what to do about hay at the mo. The last name of hay I got from the equestrian place was green and soft and the piggies adored it, but the new bales aren't as green and more stalky so they don't like it as much. I give them unlimited meadow hay from the bale and a couple of handfuls of oxbow Timothy or alfalfa King Timothy hay....but due to price and having 9 piggies I can't feed them unlimited. I'll maybe try another farm near me and see what theirs is like. I'm also waiting to see how much the INGS hay would be delivered to N.Ireland x

I agree with you @Laura mason ,it is difficult to source good hay,the majority of hay i use is a small agricultral bale from a local horse feed place,£6.00 a bale ,i get through two a month.!

I would say it's less stalky, thinner stalks and rally green compared to the 2015. The company did price the 2015 lower admitting that it wasn't a great crop. As @eileen says, depends on the pigs preferance. Our Pinky likes the stalky stuff to drum with in the side of the pen, he's also the loudest eater (louder than me).
@Guineapigfeet I'm not sure if it's dust extracted without checking the website but in my experience with their hay, it's got very little dust left at the bottom of the big bag.

What's the hay like that you get from there? Mine is £4.50 a bale. The last one I got was great but the new one isn't so good :( X

I'll maybe give them another go then. Delivery to N.Ireland costs quite a bit so if they don't like it it's a total waste. I ended up using the last one mostly in their hay boxes :(. Yeah they discounted it by a few pounds on the 2015 crop. I had never tried it before this so had nothing to compare it to! Thank you x

I sent them an email yesterday and I got a reply back really quickly, the guy sounds lovely and he confirmed it is dust extracted :)

I haven't found where I can get big bags like that here in the States, yet. Just wondering how long does hay stay good for? If I were to find a big bag I would hate for it to go stale.

i use the natures own hay, my guys love it. its a really nice sweet smelling hay-reminds me a bit of my grandads pipe tobacco from years ago. delivery is really quick too.

Google 'bales of hay for sale' with your State or area. I understand that USA and Canada produce vast amounts of really top quality Timothy Hay. If hay is kept ventilated and not kept in sealed plastic bag in the sun, it will last a good while. If you find a supplier, ask them.
