Timothyhay.co.uk soft cut

I'm grateful the goblins are only fussy in that they despise soft hay. Apparently it's not food. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø I've never had a bad box from Happy Hay though, I know I've not used the meadow but their customer service has always been great and the "right" hay always gets eaten.

I'm using g soft timothy hay from Timothyhay.uk..its very green and soft,I use it as treat hay.
I can post you some if you pm your address its lovely.i also have the Orchard grass if you want me to send some.
Is it soft enough to bury in? I put mine in piles. And I'm pretty sick of hayboxes soft cut at the moment, it's not good quality and expensive. Nancy is prone to hay poke so I use soft hay for the big piles

Yes they didn’t touch the Timothy but loved the rye and meadow!
If you're looking at meadow hay, I can very highly recommend Vale Bale meadow hay. It's lovely and soft, dust extracted, very high quality and *so* much cheaper than virtually every other brand I've come across (including the Happy Hay Co).

One 13kg bale = £12.98 including postage
Two 13kg bales = £19.48 including postage

Thank you, we actually have a happy hay box delivered. We live in a flat so 13kg of hay is far to much for us to store, I’d rather pay more to have less to store 🫣

I tried Vale Bale, the first delivery we had was quite nice but the second one wasn't, it was very dusty small bits. I wasn't impressed and neither were the piggies. I didn't try it again, we like Natures Own for meadow hay, they seem to have a fairly consistent quality.

I have given them three piles, the new meadow, the old orchard and the sweet green… both tucking into the sweet green šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ maybe they have decided this is best… which would be great as it’s very cheap!

Yes it is soft, orchard grass is slightly softer but both are very green and excellent quality in my opinion.
Thank you. I think I will try it. Haybox hasn't been impressing me soft hay wise. Their stalky hay is great still but soft cut I've had numerous orders that are dusty

I've just reordered some from Hay & Straw, 4 of the boys really liked the Timothy and Rye. I'm thinking of ordering the Ings next time. I'm away next week so don't want to try something different when I'm not here. Timmy and Freddie will just have to stick to the meadow, they seem to get through a lot of that any way.

Quite a few of us have cancelled Hay Box subscriptions due to poor quality soft hay. They do seem to have a problem with it.

Only reason I haven't moved is finding a soft cut supplier when I looked. I tried box of hay to find it was a mix of hays. And Nancy currently seems to react badly to meadow hay, could be wrong and it's coincidence but we've had worse days. But maybe I just need to be introducing it slower.

Did a Timothyhay.co.uk hay order for soft cut. Hopefully it will be soft enough. They do eat coarse stuff but at floor level so Nancy doesn't poke her eyeballs 🤣🤣. So if needs be I will give it to them in their less hay area rather than their bury area. Nancy is a pain in the bum 🤣

I've been using it religiously since I brought the pigs home in April and haven't had any issues - chances are that you got a bad batch, but I don't blame you for not wanting to try them again

That's fair enough, just thought I'd bring a cheaper option to the table in case it could be of use to you :'). Nothing wrong with using what works best for you and your pigs

Really impressed with Timothyhay.co.uk so far, this is the soft cut. It is lovely and green. Given the pigs a bit and they think it's very tasty. I think I will definitely be swapping from haybox to this. It's much better quality. It's also more compact so takes up less space

Is it safe to suddenly swap to this hay? It looks like a completely different quality and I don't want to upset stomachs. I would normally change it slowly. But I'm having a lot of itching which I'm questioning if it's hay dust because vet has already done mite treatment. Nancy is booked in for surgery next week so could do with working out if it's hay or something else. As if it's mites still I will probably have to cancel.

Yes technically. However, some owners find that using purely soft cut Timothy can be too rich and cause digestive upset (soft poops) and that soft Timothy is best fed mixed with another hay (meadow for example).

I used to use soft cut Timothy from haybox and didn’t have any issues with it (stopped using hay box though, their delivery price increases if a change was made to the subscription made me cross) but mine are bedded on meadow hay so had access to another type.
I now use orchard hay and meadow hay.

Has anyone tried the 1st cut hay from Timothy.co.uk? Mine are refusing to eat it even the seed heads! Which is very disappointing because I had hoped I had found just one hay supplier to use. They absolutely love the soft cut & the orchard just the 1st cut they won't touch.. which is strange because they love seed heads

While I’ve not used this company, all six of mine refuse first cut Timothy from any supplier - it’s because it’s all stem and too coarse for them. They do tend to pick the seed heads but won’t eat the rest of it

Mine like the coarse and blend from haybox. And they normally absolutely adore seed heads. But currently they are acting like the seed heads aren't even food which is annoying. I will continue to order from Timothyhay.co.uk for their soft cut though because it's the best quality I've found & I'm happy with them, shame the pigs can't be happy with it all. And look elsewhere for the coarser hay.

Just thought I’d give you all a laugh, after the great lengths I went to to find hay for Panko, I was still sitting on a plastic box of the old orchard hay so wanting to use it up I’ve just put a pile at one of end the cage and the new hay at the other….
1 guess which pile this is… IMG_4486.webp

Sorry, I now have this mental image of a very refined looking pig tasting hay like it's wine.

"Mm, yes, I'm getting... £50 spent across three suppliers, and... yes, a dozen nights of delayed sleep due to anxious intrusive thoughts. Superb vintage."

I'm hoping that by sharing it'll leave me alone :))
