Has anyone else noticed a drop in quality of the regular timothy hay from this site? Is seems much more stalky than previous. I wondered if this was a seasonal thing, although I've never noticed such a drastic change previously throughout seasons. Just wondered if this was maybe a one off batch I've received or if it's a general quality drop :(

I’ve not ordered, so don’t know if you can choose which cut you get. There is a big difference between first and third cuts. I know that SPS offer the choice so you can always ensure you get the cut you like.

I haven’t been able to source decent Timothy hay for weeks. I’ve tried numerous brands and end up throwing loads away as it is very sharp. Maybe it has something to do with the weather and harvest. ☹️

I was about to order from them as the Hay Box hay I had a few weeks ago wasn't very good. It's probably a seasonal thing, but I don't know where to go now! I've had lovely hay from TimothyHay.com before. I had some good 2nd cut from Pet Select but they are very expensive compared to the others.

You can get regular timothy hay, and soft timothy hay, but the soft one looks bet thin and wispy and another guinea pig owner I speak to said she receive it damp so not sure I want to risk having 9kg hay wasted. Is SPS a British supplier?

I've never had problems from them before and been using them for almost 2 years now, so slightly disappointed

It's so frustrating, the girls are still eating it but it doesn't even have the bright green look and fresh smell like before

I don’t buy on line because I have OCD . 🙁

I buy this for my girls. It's never been stalky. The 'pretty bits' are however sprinkled on one side, not throughly mixed in. It's £2.99 from The Range, or £1.99 from B&M Bargains. I've bought more expensive packs and they've still preferred this one.

I'm also trying them with this carrot one, also from The Range and £2.99, but it is much coarser.

I've had the best luck online, expect this one purchase. I'll probably continue using timothyhay.co.uk just because of how many times I've had a great batch and the girls love it, but it is frustrating when you don't get to pick what your purchasing

Thank you so much for this helpful response, I have purchased both of these previously and found my girls just don't like it as much, hence why I've stuck with this supplier for so long. These are my usual go to emergency options though 🤗

I was thinking the same thing regarding timothy hay. Co. UK, I'm really ocd with hay and had never had a bad batch until a couple of months back, the pigs don't seem to care their still eating loads but I want lovely green hay again! It's not cheap either for the recent rubbish quality!

I normally order the soft timothy hay off there just in case its too stalky for the girls. I had a bag delivered on Friday and its not too wispy but not stalky either so I can give them some oaty hay as their treat hay (into the hay racks aka the stuff that's not to go on the floor)

I’ve ordered soft and stalky timothy hay and it seems absolutely fine. Maybe it was just a bad batch, but I haven’t come across any really. The piggies (the girls in particular) seem to prefer the stalky Timothy, but I worry about hay pokes as they also like to burrow in in.

I buy my eating hay from the Hay Experts, usually Oxbow Orchard Grass, but they have just started selling their own brand Timothy hay, and it is lovely and green and soft, not stalky at all. They have both ordinary "Timothy Hay " and "Soft Cut Timothy Hay", the latter is shorter pieces, very soft almost like Readigrass, my pigs love both of them. They aren't cheap, but they are definitely good quality.

Is it better to get the ‘soft Timothy hay’ or the standard Timothy hay, which would be best from Timothyhay

Both are nice. And it depends on your piggies. Mine prefer the stalky one but I’m paranoid about hay poke as they sometimes sleep in it. I generally buy one stalky in every three bags.
